Through all of my high school years I babysat for various families. The two major ones each had three children. One family the children were 6, 7 and 8 years old and the other family they were 4 months, 7 years and 13 years. I also have 2 younger sisters (6 and 12 years younger than myself) that I spent a great deal of time looking after when I was younger. Most of my hours after school were spent with the 6,7 and 8 year old children as they lived in a single parent household and required a sitter more often. My tasks included: light housekeeping, making the children dinner and snacks, helping with homework, getting ready for bed (including baths) and reading stories as I tucked them into bed for the night. I have also completed a correspondence course in Child Daycare Management and have recently completed an Early Childhood Assistant course at Everest College. During my college course, I completed two separate placements, one with toddlers and one with preschoolers. Each placement offered a different environment, and I learned many behaviour guidance techniques as well as providing numerous age-appropriate planned art activities and seasonally appropriate games.
I have also done some supply work since graduation in child care centres.
