At Bumble Bee Academy, we believe children are capable and competent beings who deserve as many learning opportunities as possible ranging from structured learning activities, free play, individual quiet time, social interactions, and even learning to cope with boredom. We believe that children learn best when they are engaged, feel a sense of belonging, able to express themselves and are healthy and well. Our curriculum is Emergent and we achieve this by creating an open environment to foster the natural curiosities and capabilities of children so they may reach great potentials. How Does Learning Happen? is an Ontario pedagogical framework guiding our goals to achieving this open environment. Our goals will encompass the following:
(a) Promote the health, safety, nutrition, and well-being on the children
(b) Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff
(c) Encourage the children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate
(d) Foster the children’s exploration, play and inquiry
(e) Provide the child-initiated and adult-supported experiences
(f) Plan for and create positive learning environments and experiences in which each child’s learning and development will be supported
(g) Incorporate indoor and outdoor play, as well as active play, rest and quiet time into the day and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving child care
(h) Foster the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children
(i) Involve local community partners and allow those partners to support the children, their families, and staff
(j) Support staff, home child care providers or others who interact with the children at a child care center or home child care premises in relation to continuous professional learning
(k) Document and review the impact of the strategies set out in the above goals on the children and their families
Bumble Bee Academy’s program is structured to be a positive and rewarding experience that will assist children to develop a sense of belonging, independence, self-esteem, and expression. Staff will foster each child’s growth and individuality while encouraging group participation in daily activities from discovery play to exploration, or quiet time to outdoor play. Hot lunches are served family style and are catered to the centre daily. |
