Mi Casa is an outdoor focused, nature inspired private preschool and kindergarten alternative program. We spend between 2 and 8 hours a day outside depending on the season and weather.
We explore a variety of forest/ravine areas including Brickworks, Taylor creek, Todmorden trail and Wilket Creek. We travel on the TTC.
Everyday is an adventure at Mi Casa. If we aren't in the forest, we are at the Ontario Science Centre, library, Early on, farm, playing in the rain, etc. Somehow we also find time for indoor play where the children engage in activities that promote a variety of skills based on their needs and interests. Literacy is exposure is incorporated into our day in a variety of ways. We celebrate Fort Friday every week, engage in process art, cook/bake and do all kinds of sensory/science experiences.
The Mi Casa philosophy focuses on belonging, social and emotional wellbeing, empowerment and independence and fostering a deep connection and respect for our land and all of its living creatures.
Mi Casa is newly renovated with large windows and ample sunlight. We have a puffer fish, a vermi Composting set up (worm bag) a large backyard with indigenous plants and a vegetable garden.
I am a registered Early Childhood Educator with 15+ years experience working in the field. I am fluent in Spanish and so the children that attend Mi Casa are exposed to Spanish informally throughout the day.
I cannot express how grateful I am to have the opportunity to run this program. I look forward to every day with the children.
