This preschool is a fun and educational atmosphere with a small class size (max 5 children enrolled in each Group) in a home setting, to ease children into the institutional environment.
I hold a BA in psychology, am a supply Educational Assistant on days the preschool is closed, have 3 years volunteer experience in the school board and church nursery and have been running Little Berries in Barrie from my home since September 2006.
My program is play-based learning: A method of instruction that uses children’s natural inclination to make sense of the world through play, guided by the teacher. Through play, children engage in social interaction, hands-on exploration and discovery; increase their understanding of new ideas or concepts; and solve problems in a variety of ways. The active learning and sensory stimulation provided by learning-based play enhances core brain development (http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/kindercurrb.pdf)
Emphasis is also placed on building social skills and coping/problem solving abilities; must have’s for success in kindergarten. I also include many opportunities for the children to develop fine/gross motor skills, learn foundations for mathematics (eg patterning, sets, etc), acquire early literacy skills, and indulge their imaginations through games, dress up and dramatic play.
Group A runs Monday/Wednesday
Group B runs Tuesday/Thursday
