Welcome to our Educentre.
Our Philosophy
We provide a nurturing environment that fosters the child’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development. We allow the children to explore and learn through guidance and individual attention in a clean, healthy and creative environment designed especially for children.
Our Program
Activities for the children are of a self-directed nature, based on the “Learning Through Play” philosophy. We recognise that each child develops in his or her own unique way and has his or her own needs. We believe that children learn best through active participation involving a variety of activities and materials. The child is allowed the freedom of choice as often as possible.
A creative program is planned which meets the needs of each individual child, as well as balanced with meeting the needs of children in a group setting. The centre is set up with a variety of interest and learning centres that will attract the child and motivate the child’s imagination. Articles in the interest centres are rotated as deemed necessary by staff observations, appropriateness, themes, and the child’s needs and interests. The staff act as facilitators to support and motivate the children and pick up on “teachable moments” throughout the day.
We work with a variety of community programs in order that we can provide appropriate care and early education to all children. Some of these programs include Supported Childcare Services, Providence Children’s Services, as well as many of the programs through the Southern Alberta Children’s Hospital.
The environment changes on an on-going basis to meet the needs of the children and the program. Other components of the program include science, pre-mathematics, language development, music, creative movement, gross motor activities, sensory activities, and social activities. These are incorporated through a variety of equipment, interaction with staff and children, interest centres, and community resources such as our local library. We also have an out-door component that involves nature and community walks and outings, visits to the local community playground as well as organized field trips.
Our Staff
Our staff requirements exceed government standards. The people who care for your children are knowledgeable and well trained early childhood educators, who demonstrate a caring and loving attitude towards your children. Our staff have a variety of training in Education, Teaching and Early Childhood Education.
All our staff are certified by the Government of Alberta. Our staff all are required have their First Aid and CPR Certificates. They also attend workshops and courses throughout the year. Some examples of the courses are Creative Art and Play, Programming for Infants and Toddlers, Curriculum development and a variety of others.
Our Ratios
Our centre operates on a Child\Staff ratio that is set out by the Provincial Government. However, as often as possible we strive to lower our ratios during key points throughout the day, in order that the children get the individual attention they need in order to learn and develop at their own pace. |
