Hawkes’ Nest is set up on one floor. The play space is broken down into three separate areas; floor space, pretend play and table top. There is also a bathroom and change table on the same floor.
The floor space will be an open area where we will do circle time. It will have calendars on the wall, pictures of the children and a bookshelf. This will be the area where children can do puzzles, play with musical instruments and any floor toys including trains and cars.
The pretend play area will include a play kitchen, work bench, dolls and dress up.
The table top area will be for art supplies and have paper, crayons, play dough and if there is a special art project. This table will also be used for any table top toys the children wish to play with.
There is also a bathroom and a change table on the same floor. I believe that potty training is a very important time and I will work with you to ensure that it is a stress free milestone for your child.
I believe communication is very important and communicate with the parents every day. At the end of the day, I like to spend 5 minutes with the parents of each child to tell them what happened and if anything of importance needs to be shared. I also send out an e-mail on Sunday evenings with my menu and activities planned for the week.
As for the menu, I try and use only organic produce, free range eggs, hormone free poultry and whole wheat bread products.
An example of a daily menu is as follows:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, toast, fresh fruit.
Snack: Fresh fruit, crackers, cheese.
Lunch: Homemade baked chicken tenders or mini pizzas, veggies and dip/hummus
Snack: Homemade muffins, fruit.
I have my Child and Youth worker diploma from St Lawrence College and my Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Westchester Community College in Westchester NY and am certified in both CPR and First Aid.
This is a pet and smoke free environment. |

The following is a mock schedule of what a day would look like for a child that naps twice a day.
8:00-9:00 - free play time
9:00-10:30 - nap
10:30-10:45 - snack
10:45-12:00 - library toddler time, at home music and arts and free time
12:00-12:30- lunch
12:30-1:00 - art: crayons, stickers etc
1:00-2:30 - nap
2:30-2:45 - snack
2:45-4:00 - outside play time, either backyard or park (weather permitting). If raining or too cold, inside active time
4:00-whenever - free play time and pickup begins
I would try and put out different toys at different play times for a variety of activities and interests.
Once a month I would make play dough with the children and one Friday a month make a special snack (cookies, muffins etc) with them to take home. |
