I am an Early childhood Educator, I have 3 children, ages 9, 10 & 15. I have been doing daycare for 15 years.
My daycare is located on 2 levels of my home, we have a play area downstairs when you first enter, and we also use the kitchen upstairs, one of the children's bedrooms and the living room upstairs for quiet time.
I have lots of activities for the children, painting, toys, puzzles etc... and believe that a child needs to be able to use his or her imagination as much as possible as he learns through trial and error through play. I also encourage the children to learn to play together as well as learning to find a quiet spot to play when they just want a break from all the hustle and bustle of the daycare.
I use games and songs to help children learn counting, alphabet, shapes, colours etc...
I have a large fenced front yard for the children to play outdoors. A large sandbox is available for the children to use as well as balls to toss and throw, skipping ropes, chalk, bubble stuff, hula hoops etc... so there is always something to do outdoors too.
When it's hot outside we often turn on the sprinkler or fill a wading pool to cool off or the children can sit under out lovely apple tree in the shade.
On a nice day we often go to the local playground to play, sometimes we go to a play group on Friday in Ladysmith. I find this is a great place for the children to socialize with others on days where there may only be one child in care.
On a snowy day the children put on snow clothes and we go to the local school to go sliding. This is usually topped off by a hot cocoa or warm apple cider when we return to the daycare.
We have 2 resident dogs, 2 guinea pigs and a rabbit. The children love to give the guinea pigs and rabbit carrots, celery, or whatever I have on hand that is appropriate for them.
I try to keep my rates fairly low and as a result, I ask parents to supply their child(ren)'s lunch(es). This way the parent decides what their child will eat, any new foods are tested out at home (so we don't get any surprise allergic reactions) I often cut up fruit, veggies etc... and share with the children, this way they do get a bit of snack at my daycare too. I also offer all the water they can drink during a day. My only rule is that the parent packs healthy foods for their child and only 1 "treat" which we save for their after noon snack. |

I do ask that a child who will be starting more than 2 weeks in the future pays a registration fee. The amount of this fee is calculated according to the number of days your child will attend a month. The fee is non-refundable as it holds the space for you rather than having it filled with another child. |
