I offer a preschool-like program based on the British Columbia Early Learning Framework as a guide for curriculum planning. Children will benefit from an environment rich of learning experiences in the following areas:
Well-being and Belonging
Exploration and Creativity
Languages and Literacies
Social Responsibility and Diversity
Every day children will be offered activities such as creative art, science explorations, imaginative play, reading, etc. Although we do have commercially bought toys and materials, I also present children with nature found materials and loose objects and parts. These provide different opportunities for children to use their imagination and creativity through open-ended play and they learn that we don’t necessarily need to buy things to have fun. The emphasis in all our activities is on the process and not on the product.
It is been proven by a number of studies that during the first years of life learning a second or third language is a very natural process. Because Spanish is my first language I am very excited to include in my program an informal “Spanish Enrichment Curriculum” where through stories, songs, rhymes, conversations and sometimes educational videos, the children will be exposed to this language.
Physical activity and learning about sustainable living is a very important aspect of Blossom. We will spend time outside every day, playing in our backyard, gardening, learning to compost, recycling, going on neighbourhood walks or to the parks, etc.
Every day, we will have group time once or twice. This is a time for story telling, singing, dance and movement; and to discuss our day, interests and projects. |
