Welcome to Jump for Joy Dayhome! Situated in Glenbrook, near intersection 26 ave at 45 st, my location is idea for commuting downtown.
I am an Early Childhood specialist with BA Psychology, Play Listening and Play Therapy training as well as many years practical experience in this field. Other specifications: police check and vulnerable sector check, St. John Ambulance First Aid, Food Safe certified, Handinhand Parenting training.
Along with loads of laughter and cuddles, I offer warm connection, careful attention and positive limit setting as the basis for optimal growth, learning and emotional health. My child centered program includes age appropriate activities that promote physical, social and cognitive development. Overall, my daily schedule alternates between a few structured activities and many free play times.
My approach uses specific play techniques and thoughtful listening to help children work through their emotions. In turn this promotes development of emotional intelligence, social skills, cooperation and empathy. Laughter is important for mental health so we're always on the lookout for those giggles.
I use only positive discipline methods that rest upon a foundation of affection, connection and respect. A child's emotional moments or times of lashing out are viewed as a cry for connection and understanding. This method uses a time 'in' instead of time out. During this time 'in' I listen with acceptance and warmth while offering guidance and/or clear limits.
Research shows the positive benefits of this approach carry all the way through the teen years, especially in academic performance, social behavior and good judgment. I have links to this research for those interested in further reading. I have taught a parenting program based on these ideas for the past 15 yrs.
Everything else about my Dayhome meets with the standards established by http://www.calgaryfamilydayhomes.com : hours are 7 am to 5:30pm; cost per child/day ranges from $1155 - $1280 for full time depending on age and special needs. I also accept part time families at $55 /$61/day
I provide healthy, homemade food; stories are read daily; I have no TV! We enjoy singing, dancing and yoga time throughout the week and I offer a mini preschool/ arts and crafts time each day for those who want to participate. Weather permitting we get outside as often as possible and visit one of the 4 nearby parks daily.
In my day home your older child will learn basic kindergarten ready skills: things like circle time, sharing, taking turns, group participation and following directions. As well, they will become familiar with ABC's, numbers, shapes, and beginner math concepts. With the younger ones I focus on language development, physical exploration and manual dexterity. With all ages I nourish a deep sense of being respected and cared for.
A few more factoids about myself: I have happily worked with children for many years. I've successfully raised two wonderful sons, both now mid twenties, of whom I am very proud; I have a double BA in Psychology and Sociology: my focus of study was early childhood development and emotion research; I have some training in Play Therapy.
I'm available at ajfornelli@gmail.com or 403 999 2899.
I look forward to your call.
