I have THE best job in the world! We have loads of fun, learning through play, excursions & crafts. I love the kids. They love coming every day!
We have a full playground in our backyard to encourage gross motor development. We have a swing set, a double-decker modular plastic playhouse/structure, a playhouse, a junior climber with slide, a rock-climbing pyramid, and another slide. The water table may have water in it in the summer, but is used all year as a sensory table.
The playroom is a fully finished space with carpet and brightly painted walls, which are decorated with learning materials. There are many toys for infants up to preschool aged children. There is a play kitchen fully stocked with dishes, food, aprons and chef hats. The construction zone has MegaBlocks, Duplo and large Melissa & Doug cardboard bricks. Inside the trunk there are many musical instruments for parades. That's just a peek!
We play outside a minimum of 2 hours a day, in all seasons, in accordance with child care legislation. We are fortunate to have two parks within walking distance from our home. Both parks have great sand for digging and discovery with pails, shovels, cars and trucks. One of the parks has a terrific splashpad too. Other times, we can take full advantage of our corner lot for play on our collection of ride-on toys, cars, and bikes.
Early literacy and numeracy is woven throughout our daily activities. After lunch, we have a storytime and rest. I have a dedicated sleep space solely for babies and toddlers.
I serve real food, not processed stuff. Lunches ALWAYS contain veggies, making it a meal with 3 to 4 food groups. We tend to buy whole grain breads and pastas, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. I love to bake homemade muffins and granola bars for great portable snacks to the park. The menu is truly varied, which makes even the pickiest eater happy.
In the summer, we have a lot of picnics and spend a lot of time outdoors at parks like Orono Park or Lakeview Park. I like to tap into the resources offered by EarlyON centres and attend their mobile playgrounds too. In the fall, I love taking the children on a trip to Lynde Shores Bird Conservatory to get experience feeding chipmunks, squirrels, and birds by hand. In the winter months, I tend to sign each child up for at least one registered program per week with the EarlyON centre to encourage literacy and numeracy for 1-4 year olds.
I encourage a positive atmosphere of love, acceptance, discovery, nutrition, exercise and rest. I am allowed to have a 1:5 ratio because I am an unregistered day care. Our home is smoke-free. I have a valid police check for child care (vulnerable sectors). I am certified in child & infant CPR. I am approved by CAS to provide child care. I have great current and former references. Most of my business is referral.
My holidays coincide with major school holidays. I have a special opt out of care program for the summer months for teachers and school employees.
I have been doing home day care since I finished my maternity leave with our second child, 10 years ago. I try to stay current with the latest teaching strategies and resources by attending the Annual Spring Into Literacy conference for Early Childhood Educators.
I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to do this work and be a part of children's lives, while still being able to have quality family time after work hours. I really enjoy what I do. I believe it is evident in the smiles and the stories that come from the children in my care. |

My September 2018 Spot is a full-time spot, Monday-Friday. It is $45/ 8 hour day. If part-time days could work with a current family, then the rate is $50/day for 3 days. Drop-offs are between 8:00am and 8:10am. If pick up after 4:30pm is required, that can definitely be discussed. |
