My name is Stephanie and I'm a mom of two and an elementary school teacher turned family child care provider. I opened Bloom & Blossom Child Care in September 2013 and we’ve had lots of fun so far! We’re looking to expand with positions available in January 2014. Here's a little about me and the Bloom & Blossom philosophy:
I absolutely love being around children and my passion for teaching naturally carries over into my role as a care provider at home. It’s the best of both worlds! Being a mom is an awesome vocation that brings exciting challenges and joyful rewards each and every day.
My experience includes teaching in both elementary and secondary schools, delving into a wide range of subject areas, including physical education for grades K-7, and meeting the needs of students on every end of the spectrum. I have 10 years of professional teaching expertise and extensive experience as a nanny, tutor and coach. And if being a parent isn’t the best experience, then I’m not sure what is!
We are a Christian family and our home is a happy one. We value respect, responsibility and fun. I will care for your child(ren) with love, just as I would want for my own children.
My guiding principals: There are three basic beliefs that guide our program, lay a solid foundation and enrich our environment. 1) Children need to know that they’re loved, 2) their needs must be cared for, and 3) they need a balance of fun and safety. These three are the core of Bloom & Blossom and stemming from these principals, a fruitful harvest can grow.
I truly believe it takes a village! Each individual is very much a product of their environment and children need inspiration and stimulation from a wide range of intriguing settings. Socialization is intrinsic to children and fundamental in their development. I aim to provide and array of spaces and opportunities that promote an interactive lifestyle. Outings will include parks, play dates, open gyms, libraries, community centres, Strong Start school program, nature sites, urban trails, recreational programs and municipal functions among other activities and play places.
From baby to toddler to child, I will support the needs of your growing young one(s). Children will be loved and valued just as they are. They will be encouraged to be true to themselves, free to carve their mark and able to shine their personality bright!
Seeking a balance of structured daily routines and flexible fun, our on-going activities will be guided by the children’s interests and will work around learning themes and seasonal celebrations. Daily routines will include but are not limited to circle time, outdoor play, calendar and chart activities, story time including felt stories, nap and/or quiet time, free play, athletic interests, arts and crafts, educational lessons (alphabet, numbers, pre-reading and writing, phonics, shapes, animals, etc.), games (rhymes, finger plays, songs, board and card games), cooking and baking, show-and-tell, pretend play, puzzles, musical fun and rhythmical movement, cooperative indoor and outdoor activities and of course healthy meals and snack times to keep them going strong!
Children need guided structure and they find comfort in the familiarity of routines. They will be provided with behaviour guidance, clear expectations and healthy boundaries.
Our home is full of playful spaces that promote opportunities for physical, social and cognitive forms of play. I believe in the well-rounded development of the child. Bloom & Blossom takes place in our full house so we are not limited to a small, separate suited space. We have an enclosed back yard, basement play room, separate napping bedrooms and ample spaces to run around. We have a full library with a range of children’s books, educational toys and activities as well as play equipment both indoor and out.
Play equipment includes ride-on toys such as bikes, tricycles, a plasma car, a scooter and a wagon. In addition we have slides, a mini pool and slip-n-slide, basketball hoops, a ball bouncer, climbing equipment and sport sets including hockey, golf, baseball, soccer, football and tennis. We have educational toys such as computerized alphabet challenges, sorters, counters and identifiers among countless other fun toys. Children also enjoy textured and sensory play with our rice and bean box as well as our sand and water table.
We’ve got a great collection of baby & toddler essentials (bouncer, pack-n-play, jolly jumper, walker, play mat, music table, exersaucer, double stroller, motor skill toys, etc.). We have no pets, our household is kept clean, surfaces are bleached and linens, towels and wash cloths are washed regularly. We are smoke-free, pet-free and peanut friendly.
We are located in the Sullivan Heights / Panorama Village neighbourhood and within walking distance to Cambridge Elementary & Sullivan Elementary.
I’d love to get to know you and have the opportunity to chat about your child care needs. My hope is that your parenting principals overlap with our family structure and discipline dynamics. I believe that my role is to be your partner in your child’s development. Every wish for your child deserves recognition and furthermore, in our time together, I’ll strive to bring these positive aspirations for your child into fruition. Your little one(s) will be treated as family, as I would want for my children in the care of another parent. We always enjoy our friendships!
Bloom & Blossom is a LNR (license-not-required) Family Child Care.
I am willing to provide meals as per family preference.
Children’s immunizations must be up to date.
My hours are 7:30am – 5:30pm Tuesday – Friday.

My rates are as follows:
Full day child care: $45-50/day (depending on food preferences & hours)
Before and after school care: $30-35/day (discounted for after care only)
I provide a discount for siblings to be discussed upon request and a monthly rate for families attending four days per week.
