VonKids was founded to help parents cope with the lack of available quality childcare in Calgary. Developed by a mother as a program where she would want to have her own children, VK is a model centered around the warmth of a dayhome, but with the benefits of a well thought out early learning program. We currently operate close to 40 day homes in Calgary.
The founding partners in VonKids launched the company in 2007 after meeting and discussing the parent community’s needs with City of Calgary Aldermen & Provincial Regulators in order to ensure the development of an innovative model which adhered to all provincial and municipal guidelines, while offering something of true value to Calgary parents. The model needed to be local, set in a home environment. It needed to offer reliable childcare. It needed a transparent, nutritious meal plan. Flexibility would also be key because so many parents work part time. It would require a caregiver with a genuine desire and track record for working with children. The program would deliver a well thought out, age appropriate curriculum! Childcare space would be stimulating with plenty of natural light in a child centric ‘can’ environment. Exercise and regular outside time would be key to keeping children active. And finally, no reliance on television! And so, with all this integrated into the childcare model, Emma Fuerbringer (currently CEO of the Von Premium Child Care Network) launched her very first dayhome with all these elements integrated.
