Description

Registered Early Childhood Educator
Home-Based Preschool Classroom
Opening April 2014
5 Preschool Spots Available!
(18months - 4 Years)

Home childcare classroom opening late April 2014. Emphasis on the word ‘classroom; this is not your average home daycare; the program will include a daily schedule including small group time, large group time, work time (involving a plan-do-review process)
outdoor time, snack & meal time and rest time. The program will be based upon the principles of the HighScope Curriculum.

“HighScope Curriculum uses a carefully designed process — called active participatory learning" — to achieve powerful, positive outcomes. As teachers, parents, and educational researchers have discovered, the HighScope Preschool Curriculum not only helps young children excel in language and cognitive learning but also promotes independence, curiosity, decision making, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem solving — the fundamental skills that help determine success in adult life.” (HighScope,2013)

Active Learning will be present in all activities taking place through choice, materials, manipulation of materials, child thought & language and adult scaffolding. The focus will be on process rather than product, for example in art activities; children exploring their creativity is the goal. Children use art to represent their understanding of the world and express their creativity through two– and 3- dimensional projects.

In the classroom children will develop and further literacy skills by engaging in meaningful reading and writing experiences. They will become readers and writers through a unique combination of child initiated learning and teacher-guided instruction.

The classroom will be organized into defined interest areas to allow children to organize their thoughts and play with a purpose. These areas include: Art, Sand & Water, Home, Music & Movement, Blocks, Toys, Computer and Reading & Writing.

As of April 2014 I will be a registered ECE and couldn't be more excited to open my classroom. After working with children on and off for 12 years, I entered the program to better my understanding of child development and learn how to properly implement developmentally appropriate activities . My son is 2 1/2 and is my inspiration to facilitate exciting early childhood learning experiences. I have come to see through experience that sadly, a lot of the childcare out there perpetuates the impression that ECE is ‘babysitting’ ; it is not. There is a dire need for high quality programs, so that is what I am out to provide. With the right guidance and education every child is capable of amazing things!!
