Hello parents,
I have been providing daycare in my home for 9 years now and I love it! I have three kids of my own, 4 yrs, 9yrs and 10yrs. I do my best to provide the care for my daycare children that I would want for my own kids. My routine is relaxed and the atmosphere is homey. The kids get lots of fresh air and exercise every day and we have a strong focus on nature. We do lots of crafts and activities, puzzles, games and read stories every day as well. I take the kids to the Parenting and Family Literacy Centre one or two days a week (like an Early Years Centre). I strive to provide lots of unstructured playtime for the kids and I try to provide lots of opportunities for spontaneous discovery: watching the ants swarm out of the anthills, playing in the leaves in the fall, discovering that awesome cracking sound when you stamp on thin ice in the wintertime...
I have a degree in Biology and incorporate my love of science into the activities I plan for the kids. We do something creative every day, whether it's lego, playdoh, baking, crafts, art or creating a fort on the lawn! Here are some of the activities we have done:
*We have frozen jello and then studied the changing textures as it melts :)
*We grow a vegetable garden every year
*Frozen shaving cream and played with it, like snow, in the summer time
*Created soap clouds
*Made pine cone bird feeders
*Made erupting volcanoes
*Painted with corn syrup
*Painted with marbles
