Hi there,

My name is Lindsay. I am a certified Early Childhood Educator and Primary/Junior Teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers. I am also the proud mother of a wonderful almost two-year-old daughter! I have decided to stay home with my girl and love to welcome other children into our happy home to join in our fun! I am a warm, sensitive, and responsive caregiver who takes the role of watching over and providing a safe and enriched daycare environment seriously.

The first three years of a child's life are the most important in terms of growth and development. My program will nurture the whole child; the environment will promote growth and discovery, activities and materials will stimulate and address the needs and interests of the child, wholesome and highly nutritious meals will be served, and each child will be welcomed as an important part of our daycare family. My program is also quite structured. Although most of our day will be spent learning through unstructured play, our routines and daily schedule will be consistent. I believe children are happier and more secure in an environment where they know what is happening next and they know what is expected of them. As well as the spontaneous learning that happens each day, planned, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that are fun and engaging are a big part of the program. We will have daily circle times and activities that promote music awareness, literacy and numeracy, fine and gross motor development, art, science, sensory development etc.

During my studies, I was introduced to many philosophies of learning, and have incorporated what I feel are the 'best practices' into my program and daily life with children. I believe in many of the approaches taken by early childhood philosophers such as Montessori, Reggio Amelia, and Waldorf. You will see elements of these as well as others in the environment, the materials we have, and the way I approach teaching our little ones.

In terms of behavior management, my philosophy is to first minimize behaviours by controlling the environment. Behaviours will still happen! Children will learn and be expected to follow the big three: we do not hurt others, we do not hurt ourselves, and we do not hurt things. Redirection is the first approach to behaviour management in my home. If negative behaviours continue, a short time out may be used, followed by an age appropriate talk.

I look forward to working closely with the families of the children that are in my care to insure the best possible outcomes for the individual children and the group. Your child should feel happy, content, and secure no matter where they are spending these important years. I will always strive to make sure that your child is extremely well taken care of!
