Learning through play, I engage the children when playing blocks, asking them what color they are or to get different colors for their buildings. We also count the stairs when going to nap. I have had children as young as 17 months old counting to ten. We sing the abc's and 123's as well as other nursery rhymes. I often ask the children to find me different shaped objects in the room as well as colors.
I utilize the internet and print off coloring pages, as well as learning to print pages. I try to teach the children to print their names on any coloring pages, crafts, etc., telling them it is so I know whose it is for home time. I find they want to learn their name if it is linked to taking the papers home. |
