Description

Hi, my name is Leticia Belem and I’m a certified childcare provider with Early Childhood Education (ECE) background. Below you will find more info about me and my daycare. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through email or phone. I hope to hear from you soon!

About me:
First and foremost, I love children and I am very dedicated in helping them develop their full potential. I have a lot of practical experience with children as I have been happily and successfully operating a home daycare for the past 8 years. During this period of time, I have also pursued more formal studies on child development. In 2007, I conducted child studies at the Mothercraft Center and received my Home-Based Child Care Training Program Certificate. For the past 2 years, I have also been studying part-time (during evenings and weekends) at Humber College in the field of Early Childhood Education (ECE). Also, every two years I renew my certificates for CPR and First Aid.

My daycare:
The daycare is situated in a very safe and quiet neighborhood, one block from the Glencairn and Bathurst intersection. The daycare is on the main floor of my home. The children eat in my dining room, sleep in a dedicated main floor bedroom, and play in a sun-filled room overlooking the backyard. The bedroom and playroom are only used for purposes of the daycare. The backyard is huge, covered in grass, and fenced-in to keep the children safe. The home is very clean and smoke-free. I do have 2 resident cats; however, they are not allowed in the rooms used for the daycare and they are never around the children.

Daily life at the daycare:
The children play outside in my backyard as much as possible. As you can see from the pictures, we have lots of outdoor toys to keep them busy and active. When indoors, we play, sing and read in the playroom. I have a NO SCREEN policy, and the children will not have access to computers or TV while at the daycare. Each day, I offer the children 2 snacks and a lunch that meet the recommendations of the Canadian Food Guide. All the food is homemade and the children have typically very much enjoyed my cooking.

My philosophy:
While regularity with meals and naps is very important for the children, I do not follow a rigid schedule of daily play and learn activities. Instead, I encourage the children to be spontaneous, creative and as independent as possible. I focus a lot on how the children are interacting with each other. I like to gently enforce manners and respect, and teach the children to share and be kind to their friends. I see myself as a partner with the parents, and I can only successfully do my job if we work together and communicate effectively.

Administrative matters:
I charge a very competitive rate of $55 per day for children over the age of 18 months. For infants between 7 and 18 months, I charge $60 per day. I do not have a special price for half day attendance. Sometimes I have part-time (i.e. less than 5 days per week) spots available, so please contact me to inquire if you are looking for part-time care. Daily rates are paid by enrollment not by attendance. I provide tax receipts.

References:
I have excellent references from the parents of children I am currently caring for or cared for in the past, so if you are considering my daycare, please don’t be shy to ask for their feedback.

All the best, Leticia.
