The PhD Nanny - a Home Daycare of a Higher Standard
I paid my way through 9 years of university working as a nanny, so it only seemed natural to open a home daycare when I had my own child. Putting my PhD on hold I'm now turning my love of learning and my researching and teaching skills towards homeschooling her.
My childcare philosophy emphasizes child-led and play-based learning, and emergent curriculum (which basically means that we learn about whatever the children are interested in: the curriculum emerges from the children every day). I focus on building confidence, trust and independence through valuable everyday activities like cooking, baking, reading and gardening as well as bigger, long term projects like designing and building, and researched day trips. I put a high emphasis on daily outdoor playtime.
I offer full-time or part-time childcare at an HOURLY rate ($5/hour per child between 7:30am and 6pm, $10/hr per child outside of those hours) for maximum flexibility for parents with part-time or occasional jobs or with a rotating schedule. I also provide before and after school care with drop-offs and pick-ups for students of Princess Anne French Immersion School.
I welcome children 6 months and older. I currently have 2 spaces available for regular or drop-in care.
