-Flexible hours, open to unique schedules, teacher’s schedules, etc.
-Clean and appealing home environment, playroom designed based on professional experience creating inviting and educational play spaces
- I have worked in several of Ottawa’s most highly regarded centres, and have many references both personal and professional
Over 10 years of experience working professionally with children
Experience with children ages 6 months – 12 years
•Positive and child-empowering language used
•Positive approach to toilet learning and teaching self-help skills
•Positive redirection and behaviour guidance used, “gentle” parenting approach taken
•Montessori and play based learning are my main inspirations, I strive to provide a range of non-electronic toys to engage children’s creativity
•TV free, pet free, non-smoking home
•High value placed on outdoor time
•Weekly trips to play groups, libraries, community businesses, etc.
-Child directed learning, emergent curriculum, ELECT documentation in keeping with school board curriculum goals for early learning (Kindergarten readiness – I have worked for the school board in Kindergarten programs). Learning documented with photos, checklists, observational data and written anecdotes.
•Before and after school care considered (space depending)
•Daily outdoor play and exercise, many parks nearby, fenced in yard
•Healthy, home cooked meals and snacks (can accommodate vegetarians, latex free home, can accommodate any severe allergy)
•CPR and Standard First Aid qualified, Fiancé is NLS lifeguard with a criminal records check certifying his ability to work with the vulnerable sector (and generally home during daytime hours and available to help out should I find myself ill, reducing parent’s need for last minute care arrangements). I also have a criminal records check for the vulnerable sector, and I am a Registered Early Childhood Educator with the Ontario College of ECE’s.
•Personal anaphylaxis allergy means I’m hyper vigilant about allergies, carry my own epi-pen; I have used one before. If your child has allergies I will insist upon wearing your child’s epi-pen on my own body in a fanny pack at all times; same for inhalers for asthma etc. All other medicines kept in a locked, high cabinet.
I have a wide variety of references both personal and professional for you to contact – ask them anything, and call them back if you forget something! I want this to be a great fit for everyone.
