General Information Synopsis:
Home Day Care in a loving, caring family atmosphere. The Care Provider whose name is Emily, is trained, qualified and very experienced. Children love to spend their days with their friends, playing and learning. Lots of time is spent in outdoor play, (weather permitting) exploring nature, with plenty of learning. We follow routines not schedules, offer choices not impositions. Snacks and meals are healthy, often organic. Food, play time, stories, naps, music!!! Fun fun fun.
At present, I am not registered with the Region of Waterloo Home Child Care program and as such, do not take subsidized children. I am very familiar with the regulations and strive to follow them closely wherever possible. I care for a maximum of 5 children at a time.
Style of Care
My style of care is to strive to replicate a fun and engaging "farm/country" home & family atmosphere (as opposed to super-structured, more formal mini-day care centre). We have routine, not schedule, we eat healthy food, mostly home-made, often organic. Sweet treats etc. are not offered. There is plenty of love and patience to share with everyone!
Organic Perspective
We spend as much time as we can outside, usually most of the morning and much of the afternoon (after naptime) in decent weather. My large yard is enclosed, a botanical delight for children. There are 8 fruit trees, a large raspberry jungle, thousands of flowers throughout spring to fall, a swing hanging from a tree, sandbox under the tree, grass, small "woodland", tricycles etc. As well we tend our container gardens that may produce tomatoes, strawberries, zucchini, cucumbers, beans, flowers .. a pot for each child if they wish .. peppers, some herbs, etc. We frequently walk/run/trike and stroller to Rockway Gardens where the gardeners are very welcoming and like to show us how to pull weeds, find worms, and show us the flowers. We splash our hands in the fountains, observe goldfish and tadpoles, run and play on the grass, climb the rocks and often have morning snack in the gazebo.
Reading Writing and Colours
While there is no structured circle time, there is plenty of opportunity for reading stories while we're all sitting together on the big story chair, for listening to music, singing, learning our colours and letters, etc. There is very little time for the occasional video, never ever television. We learn the names of some birds and try to identify which birdsong we hear. If one of us is interested in the ants on the sidewalk we all bend down to look, watch and discuss. Same with lichen, worms, clouds .. whatever we're seeing at the moment. Its child-led learning .. they learn about what they are interested in at the moment, and they inspire each other to learn and grow!
Qualifications Hours etc.
I have my ECE training, police check, F&CS check, Standard First Aid, many many years of experience, letters of recommendation, and a house that is very child friendly .. fingerprints, paintings posted on the walls, sand in the corners (woops!), small furniture, toys, art supplies, child-size cots & play-yards for napping .. You and your child receive plenty of value for your money! Hours are flexible.... sometime between breakfast and dinner, preferably not outside of 8 - 5, and only Monday through Friday. Because of other commitments, I do need to be finished by 5 pm on Tuesdays. My location is just down the street from Rockway Mennonite Collegiate, on Doon Road, just off the Expressway, and between King and Courtland Streets. Access is easy from all sides. Care is dependable, mature, very child friendly, consistent and the children in my care are happy!! My home is mostly scent and chemical free, an environment where recycling, healthy living, respect for the earth and for each other is taught and modeled.
Breastfeeding friendly. Cloth diaper friendly. LGBTQ+ ally.
I am totally open to taking part-time enrollments if you can fit into the schedule of other part-timers. Give yourself a regular day or two per week for self-care, to take a class, work part-time or whatever you wish!!

Admission conditions |

When registered, parents will be given a Parent Handbook & will sign a contract. Two weeks' deposit will hold your spot and will be applied against the first two weeks. Payment is always in advance, and must be on time. Receipts are given at or soon after year-end.
Five children at a time max, (no more than 2 under 2) none of my own. |
