-UPDATED February 21st, 2012-
OPENINGS July 2012: There are currently 2 openings.
If you would like to be placed on the waiting list, please email me.
Lakeshore Montessori Preschool offers the comfort of a home daycare with the benefit of a Montessori education. Offering an Infant/Toddler program and a Preschool (Casa) Montessori program.
In both programs there are plenty of age appropriate activities and space. The children are combined for circle, meals and outdoor time.
In one section of the classroom there is a variety of toys and activities for the children to engage with. The toys and activities are often changed around and monitored as to what the children are interested in and based on the ages of the children enrolled to help enhance their experience. We will focus on milestones, learning, growing and of course having fun during the day.
As the toddler child gets older he/she will start to be introduced to the Montessori section. Most 2 ½ year olds are ready for practical life and sensorial. Every child has their own pace and some may be ready sooner and some later. Introduction to the preschool section will be gradual and at the childs own pace.
In the Montessori section the child is encouraged to focus his/her attention on one particular quality, the child works at his/her own optimum level in an environment where beauty and orderliness are emphasized and appreciated. A spontaneous love of "work" is revealed as the child is given the freedom (within boundaries) to make her own choices.

CHILDCARE FEES & RATES MAY CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE FOR ALL PROGRAMS.
Yearly Enrollment Fee for the fall/winter/spring program:
An enrollment fee of $700.00 per infant and $650 per toddler or preschooler is required during registration of NEWLY enrolled children and is NON-REFUNDABLE for ANY reason; even if the child is removed from the daycare/preschool program by the owner/operator of the daycare/preschool. (withdrawal could be based on child's behaviour or the child's parents behaviour/attitude and not following policies etc.). The enrollment fee is applied towards your June's childcare fees: the last year the child attends the preschool/daycare due to a child starting kindergarten in September or due to the family being posted or transferred out of the area.)
One month Trial Period for Newly Enrolled Children
---------------------------------------------------------
During the interview process, every effort is made to ensure that there is a good match between the child and the childcare provider prior to a child's enrolment in the daycare/preschool as well as a good match with the parents of the child and the childcare provider.
However, sometimes, it is found by the childcare provider or parent, that it is not a good match when the child starts to attend the daycare/preschool and as such Lakeshore Montessori Preschool & Daycare allows parents a one month trial period for newly enrolled children.
At the end of the first month of being enrolled in the preschool/daycare if the owner/operator of Lakeshore Montessori Preschool & Daycare or the parent determines that it is not a good match; then a written notice of withdrawal must be given to either the parent or preschool/daycare (this depends on who is withdrawing the child) by the last day of the month (the trial month). (Please see withdrawal policy) The non-refundable enrolment fee will be applied to the 2nd month of care- which would be the child's last month of care in the daycare/preschool. If a parent or childcare provider does not want or feel it is in the best interest of the child NOT to attend the next month (regardless of the reason), there is NO REFUND on the NON-REFUNDABLE enrolment fee which was given upon enrolling the child.
The TRIAL PERIOD is the ONLY time the non-refundable enrolment fee would be applied to the "last month of care". If a parent withdraws their child after the trial period, they forefeit their enrolment fee.
The enrolment fee is STILL NON-REFUNDABLE if a child has been asked to leave the program by the owner/operator. There are NO REFUNDS in monthly fees if a child is asked to leave the program before the end of a month or for absences in the daycare/preschool.
The enrollment fee is ONLY returned in FULL when I am unable to place your child. Enrollment fees are non-refundable when placement is available and declined.
WITHDRAWAL POLICY - Termination Attendance Policy in Reference to Childcare Fees:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
If a child's attendance must be terminated, and this is a decision made by the parents of the child, Lakeshore Montessori Preschool & Daycare requires one month prior WRITTEN notice. (Not 30 days notice but one full calendar month's notice i.e. If you wish to remove your child on Oct 15th, notice must be submitted before or on September 1st.) If one month written notice is not recieved prior to withdrawal I will require one months fees in lieu of this notice. This notice is applicable also to those children registered for the preschool program only that operates from September - June. -I must receive notice, in writing, by August 1st if your child is not starting in September. If written notice has not been recieved by August 1st, then the parents will be required to pay September's childcare fees as well as for any and all months until proper written notice has been recieved. Any and all outstanding tuition fees and/or additional charges are due on or before the date of withdrawal of the child from Lakeshore Montessori Daycare in order to recieve a tax reciept.
PLEASE NOTE:A withdrawal notice from a parent to remove their child from the daycare or preschool for the month of June regardless of the reason, will not be accepted. The last month a parent can withdraw their child from Lakeshore Montessori Preschool & Daycare is April 1st, for a May 1st withdrawal date.
The childcare provider is allowed up to 12 paid personal/ sick/ holidays days throughout the ten month program (Sept - June) and 2 paid/sick/holidays during the summer program (July - August), which can be taken consecutivly. It is important for parents to arrange back up care for when their child is sick or if the preschool/daycare has to close.
* Lakeshore Montessori Preschool & Dayhome is closed on all STAT holidays, , Christmas break, Easter Break (Friday and Monday). Parents will recieve a calendar at the time of enrollment, as well as when the reenrollment forms are handed out to parents every March and a final revised copy SEptember 1st.
A 4-8 week summer program may be offered in the months of July & August depending on the demand (min. 3 children) for children who do not regularly attend the daycare/preschool from September - June. Summer childcare fees are NON-REFUNDABLE FOR ANY REASON once paid.

More Information on the Montessori Education:
-----------------------------------------------------
In the Montessori classroom the main areas of learning include:
Language:
------------
Montessori children typically do not remember learning to read, as the environment is designed so that all activities feed naturally toward the development of skills required for reading. Thus, reading is experienced as part of the process of living. It was not only Maria Montessori's trust in the child's power that lead her to approach reading in this natural way, but also her concept of the child as an active, rather than receptive being. She considered it the job of education not to fill the child with the techniques for reading, but to free the child for self-expression and communication. Therefore, although reading, writing, spelling, and grammar are introduced to the child in an organized method, the presentation allows the child to acquire reading skills without realizing the effort.
Mathematics:
----------------
Math is the study of numbers, quantities, shapes, and measurements and how they relate to one another. In Montessori math, the children are introduced to the sensorial impressions of numbers, the decimal system and its functions, addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. Using manipulative materials, the child explores these concepts physically, creating a basis for more abstract operations.
Culture and Science
-----------------------
Including History, Geography, Zoology and Botany
History:
---------
Awareness of history for a child begins with awareness of himself within bounds of time. As we chart the days of the week, the months and seasons, time awareness becomes part of daily life.
Geography:
-------------
Geography is the study of the earth including its people, resources, climate and physical features. Teaching Geography aids the child in developing a clear sense of spatial orientation. By giving sensorial impressions of the earth and showing children their relationship to it, Montessori lessons help develop a foundation of global awareness. In addition, Geography lessons explore different world cultures. Through exposure to cultural traditions and lifestyles, geography lessons allow the child to become aware of and develop a respect for all cultures, which is critical in today's global community.
Zoology:
-----------
Children by nature are interested in animals. They are fascinated by the fact that, like themselves, they posses life and character. Through observing and discussing how different animals eat, rest, or building a nest the child will develop a better understanding and knowledge of the animals all around the world.
Botany:
---------
Exploring the subject of Botany helps a child develop an appreciation for and an understanding of the life cycle. Through specific Botany works, the child develops a greater knowledge and understanding of the virtue of patience as the child is exposed to nature's seasonal changes and the growth cycle.
Sensorial:
------------
The sensorial materials are designed to aid the child in training and refining his/her five senses. Children are exposed to concepts such as length, weight and color and challenged to make judgments about them. By using the sensorial materials, the child learns to recognize similarities and differences; to discriminate between similar objects and to gradiate similar objects. Each set of materials is used as carefully and precisely as possible. Precision at this stage prepares for later work in geometry.
Practical Life:
----------------
The purpose of practical life exercises is to encourage conscious, orderly, controlled and functional knowledge out of the mass happenings in the real world. The practical life exercises help a child break down jobs at hand into easily manageable components. They all require real tools: silverware, wood, glass etc- all items that reflect and typify an actual home environment. In this way, they provide the child a chance to learn what practical living is, and how to manage it.
Because he/she is young, the child is willing to work and is receptive to direction. He/she works for the simple joy of doing the task at hand, so early childhood is the ideal opportunity to give him/her the tools of learning and give him/her the methods to use them. The teacher is an important catalyst, allowing the child to repeat the task for its own sake. The teacher also helps him/her appreciate the value and dignity in the work itself. The main areas in the practical life exercises involve Grace and Courtesy, Care of Person, Care of the Indoor Environment, and Art.
As the child builds success upon success with small tasks, he/she is able to go on to greater ones, mastering his/her small environment.
Within these areas of the classroom we will have a monthly theme. We will also be doing a sound of the week; this information will also be in the newsletter that is sent home.
An educational method that shall have liberty as its basis must intervene to help the child to a conquest of liberty. That is to say, his training must be such as shall help him to diminish as much as possible the social bonds which limit his activity. ~ Maria Montessori |
