Tender Years is an at home day-care centre committed to creating a safe, warm, loving environment for children where they can learn and grow physically, emotionally, creatively, intellectually, and socially at their own pace. We want to help your child increase their confidence and self-esteem by treating them as unique individuals, and allowing them to express themselves in a variety of facets. We strive to make your child’s time at daycare the best experience it can be for them as well as you, the parents.
We are committed to supporting families by maintaining open communication and encourage parental involvement in our programming and care activities. Our objective is to care for your child the same way you would.
The owner of the daycare is Hafsa Azhar, an experienced Life Sciences graduate from McMaster University. She has been actively operating her private home daycare full-time for over a year now.
In programming activities for children Hafsa follows The Ontario Curriculum for The Full-Day Early Learning – Kindergarten Program, which follows a play-based learning philosophy. She develops activities centered on stories, songs, fine and gross motor skills, circle time, music, theatre and arts/craft.
Her program also focuses on children’s newly emerging skills and advanced use of language, math, and scientific thought. She believes that multi-disciplinary learning encourages individual skills and emerging interests in academics, creative expression, and outdoor learning.
She strives to prepare your children for early school years by exposing them regularly to letters, numbers, colours, shapes, name recognition, and new vocabulary. The curriculum stimulates each child’s innate curiosity and exploratory nature to prepare children for lifelong learning. Children move to primary school socially prepared, excited to learn, and well versed in the language, math, and science skills they’ll need to succeed.
The learning program focuses on the following six areas of learning in kindergarten:
Science & Technology Rock: Inquiry, design, observation, and exploration skills
Language Works: Talking, questioning, beginning to write and identify letters and numbers, media literacy skills and oral communication.
Math Counts: Counting, sequencing, developing 1-to-1 correspondence, pattern, geometric relationships, measurement relationships.
ArtSmart: Drawing, brush painting, exploring music, dance, and dramatic arts.
Me & My World: Appreciating diversity, becoming environmentally conscious, self-reliance and social skills.
Well Aware: Taking part in exercise and yoga, preparing and eating healthy foods; large and small muscle development.
