Offering a safe, sanitary, comfortable, caring atmosphere in which a child can flourish and grow, I feel that children need first hand experiences that encourage them to stretch and grow both physically and mentally. This is achieved through "hands on experience" learning.
Using a balanced program of learning activities that include enough variety to be both intellectually and emotionally stimulating, learning is incorporated into every day play through "learning centres". I love to challenge each child's creativity with structured and unstructured creative activities.
My philosophy
I will meet every child’s physical, social, intellectual, creative and emotional needs by:
1. Motivating children to engage in the variety of activities using different learning environments and provide the children with various textures, experiences, and toys that are displayed on open, low shelving.
2. Providing daily adequate, nutritional meals and snacks.
3. Supporting children’s ideas and efforts when giving opportunities for one-on-one quality time and encouraging small group activities.
4. Practicing respectful, positive behaviour towards others and properties.
5. Taking the children out for daily walks or planned field trips to discover new, emerging interests.
6. Encouraging children to participate in problem-solving/turn-taking games.
7. Having fewer adult directed and more child-lead activities.
8. Providing open-ended art materials to invite creative participation.
9. Using conflicts between children as opportunities for learning problem solving.
10. Giving children choices and opportunities to make decisions and be active participants.
My Kitchen
Nutritionally balanced meals and snacks according to Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide using local produce, meat, and dairy (when possible) will be made by me in order to support children's healthy development.
Communications
Midday updates, weekly menus, activity schedules, and clothing suggestions will be emailed to provide a consistent flow of information to parents.
About Me
I am mom to a sweet, sensitive, soccer-loving 5 year old boy going into SK, a playfully silly super-helpful 2 year old girl who will be home with me, and a happy, smiley 7 month old who will visit periodically. I love nothing than observing play to explore creativity, thought process, and development. As a marketing professional in my previous life, I have lead legions of lawyers to develop better manners, sharing, and caring skills. |
