I am an Early Childhood Educator who has been providing home daycare for children for 19 years. I have my first aid and child cpr. I provide a very loving and stimulating environment in which children can develop while feeling safe and secure. There is a nice balance between indoor activities and outdoor fun, but in the summer, we tend to be on the go every day! I enjoy taking the children on a variety of field trips that range from water pads to museums, farms and zoos. I am very involved in the daycare community. I run a playgroup on Thursday mornings called Pitter Patter Playtime (we have a web page), and I serve on the committee for the Barrhaven Child Care Centre. I am also a member of CCPRN (Child Care Providers Resource Network) In the winter we visit different playgroups which include the Child and Literacy program at Severn Public School, a wonderful classroom set up for children to explore and learn with the security of knowing I am close by. I have 4 years of University and 2 years college, to obtain my ECE. I was the Head Teacher in 2 day care centres before I decided to open up my own home daycare to stay home with my daughter, and have never looked back! I love it! I have many years of experience teaching children and my best strengths would be my sense of humour, my ability to redirect behaviour and my love for children! I would prefer to redirect behaviour, but if necessary, time outs are my choice, though I use them rarely. The children are busy and we have fun, so behaviour is not often an issue. Another strenghth I have is managing large group dynamics. I run the circle prgram at our playgroup where I provide songs, puppets and felt stories for the children. I have also provided circle for other playgroups and for CCPRN events. On days that we stay home, I have a lovely, big backyard with a swing, sandbox, ride on toys and climbers. We also do many activities at the table, like playdough, painting, doll washing, colouring and more! We eat outside in the summer as much as we can. I provide 2 healthy snacks and a healthy lunch each day. In the winter when we do not go to playgroup we play downstairs in the playroom for free play, but enjoy many activities at the kitchen table as well. We have a rest time in the afternoon after which we have snack and back to play!! |
