Hi, my name is Shannon Thompson. I am the proud mother of two children. I have a daughter, Olivia, who is 18 months and my son Owen, is 3 years old. I have been a teacher for the past ten years and upon returning to work I realized I would rather be home with my children. I have decided to start a home daycare. My children and I are excited to start this new adventure with you.
I have 2 full time spots open in December. I am located in Cheney which is outside Hammond. My daily rate is 40$. I speak English. Daycare hours are 7:00 to 5:30. A typical day at Learn, Laugh, Love Daycare:
During drop off time I will be allowing the children to watch cartoons so that I have the opportunity to welcome each child in the morning and speak to parents. I will provide a nutritious breakfast/ snack.
In the morning and afternoon will be going downstairs for free play, circle time and some organized activities. The kids will also be upstairs for snacks, crafts, baking, science experiments and whatever other messy adventures we explore.
Your child will go outside, weather permitting, twice a day.
If your child naps I will be aiming to have your child down for a nap at 12:00. I will not enforce a nap if you do not want your child to have one. Instead I will give them the opportunity to play quietly.
As kids wake up they will have free time to play. The afternoon will include more structured activities, a snack, and outdoor time.

Facebook page: I have created a facebook page for my daycare. It is a closed site and will only be viewed by the parents of this daycare. On this site I will post pictures of the daily events. I feel this will allow you to discuss daycare more openly with your child as you will know some of the major activities we did through the day. You will also get a chance to see pictures of your child playing while you are at work and be assured they are in good hands and are happy.
Discipline: I believe in positive reinforcement and redirecting children. If a reoccurring problem arises I will discuss your child’s behaviour with you and together we will come up with a plan.
Outdoor play: Your child will go outside to play twice a day. I have an acre of property and plenty of toys to play with. We will be making a sliding hill this winter. In the summer we have a play structure, many toys, and a sandbox. I love to garden and plan to have the kids involved in that. Also on the rare occasion that my husband is home, we will roast marshmallows over a fire.
My sick policy is that I will take your children for any sickness that is not contagious as long as your child is able to handle it. If your child is crying and desperately wants his/her parents because he/she is not feeling well, I will have to call you to pick up your child and ask you to keep them home. I will give Advil/Tylenol if given written permission. I also don’t mind being flexible with nap schedules if your child needs more sleep.
TV: I do believe in allowing children to watch TV. I will pick educational and age appropriate shows for your child to watch in the morning as they arrive. This will allow me to welcome each child and talk to you about the day. When the weather is bad and the kids need a break I may show a movie from time to time or a television show.
Circle time: As a teacher it is in my nature to teach your children. I will have circle time daily. That will involve stories, songs, and mini lessons. I taught kindergarten for 2 years and will help prepare your child for this transition through many fun exercises.
Lunches and snacks will be nutritious and home cooked.
How to pay: Monthly, bi weekly, weekly are all options. My only request is that you stick to your payment schedule. Payment is due prior to starting the week. I will accept Etransfer or cash only.
I am in the process of taking all of my kindergarten materials and decorations out of storage and setting up the house. I will email pictures if you are interested or you can come see my house at your convenience.
