Dear parents,
Throughout my life I have been connected with child development and education. In earlier years, I completed my Bachelor of Education and Masters of Education and was able to implement both degrees doing supply work as a primary school teacher, school-age daycare staff, and then as an adult educator with the federal government. During the work at the daycare in Ottawa, I had the opportunity to help create and deliver a daycare program.
After having my second daughter, my family and I decided that we need better work-life balance. As a result of this change in thinking, I have decided to step away from my work in the government and care for my own children (ages 4.5 and 2.5) and hopefully yours. During this time I would like to open my home to a few children. I plan to run a program that builds on your child's interests and prepares them for school, life, and adventure with you. Some of the activities we will do include calendar and circle time to discuss the weather and that month's theme, painting, crafts, sensory bins, drawing, dancing and yoga. We have a large, sunny main floor room that will be our primary space, and a large backyard we will enjoy whenever the weather permits. You will know what we are doing ahead of time and then how your child reacts to that day's adventure, as communication will be key.
I am the type of person who values experience over things. This could be done through adventures in the neighbourhood or enjoying a moment reading a book with a little person who has shown interest in the story. I believe that children need structure through a combination of routine and schedule. In that structure, children need their own element of control, and overall flexibility to the child's interests. Our daycare adventures will be fuilled by homemade nutritional meals.
There are several parks within walking distance that we will take full advantage of. As well, we will make trips to the local library, early years centre and museums on occasion. All of these adventures will be done by foot or city bus.
I am first aid and CPR certified. I am also an active member of Child Care Provider Resource Network, which has allowed me to keep informed about child development, activities in the area, and different activities to to integrate into my program.
Our family also has a mature golden doodle. She is wonderful with children, and will be sure to encourage your little one to further develop their sense of empathy.
I want to be involved in my children's lives and would extend that involvement to your child(ren). Above all, I want children that I care for to know that they are loved and supported.
