I have more than a decade of experience working with children as a preschool and kindergarten teacher, nanny, tutor, and special education facilitator. I have worked at international schools and for families in Canada, Egypt, Haiti, Curacao and the Netherlands, and most recently founded an international community playschool in Shanghai, China. My post-secondary education focused on psychology, sociology and language, and I have completed a long list of continuing education courses in pedagogy and maternal-child health. I have certification in Childcare First Aid and CPR, a clear criminal record, and a long list of outstanding, verifiable references.
We are an out-and-about day home, which means we maximize our outdoor time, bringing as much of our day outside and into community spaces as possible, while being mindful of the needs of each child. We provide reliable child care with plenty of opportunities for interaction, play, learning, exploration and discovery, while respecting each child's needs for individual attention, rest and nourishment. We set high standards - nothing less than what we want for our own children.
We operate out of a spacious, clean and well-organized ground floor condo and have a large private patio for on-site outdoor time and easy access to the elementary school and several parks. At Little City we use Play, Participation and Possibilities: An Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework for Alberta to guide us in our interactions with the children and to develop a play-based program that helps nurture each child's sense of well-being and belonging, opportunities for play and playfulness, confidence in communications and literacies, awareness of diversity and social responsibility, and disposition to learn. We use the learner expectations in the seven learning areas (early literacy, early numeracy, citizenship and identity, environment and community awareness, personal and social responsibility, physical skills and well-being, creative expression) from the Alberta Education Kindergarten Program Statement to inform our activity planning and keep the children engaged and challenged while preparing for future learning and education experiences.
We do a number of structured and guided activities, as well as free play each day. Our aim is to keep the children happy, engaged, challenged and active. Each day will include opportunities to participate in creative, academic/educational, sensory, and physical activities. We have a no television policy. |
