Description

My hours are specialized for parents who commute to work or who work shifts. I will also accommodate teachers schedules.

Very often the children who arrive before 6:00am come in pajamas and go back to bed. The daycare programming starts after breakfast, around 9:00am, and we wrap up around 4:00pm. Before and after those hours it is a family style atmosphere - children “help” in the kitchen, or have free play, or we snuggle and read etc.

If I only have one child in the morning or evening, or for an overnight, they sometimes come to the barn with me to play with the straw or pet animals while I feed and check water. Chores are normally completed before and after daycare hours so it’s not an expectation on my part. Just a fun treat for the little ones.

I am a practicing gentle/attachment parent who is cloth diaper friendly and serves home made meals and snacks. This spring I have grand plans for a garden the children can plant and watch grow (and play in the dirt as well). I also have raised beds that grow the majority of our homestead food.

The children in my care enjoy exploring outside, in a fenced and well shaded front yard. There is lots of gross motor movement throughout the day and process-driven crafting to develop fine motor coordination.

Circle time is a personal favourite of mine - I’m a little proud to say my nursery rhyme repertoire is rather extensive, and the story books change with our themes.

As mentioned, my home is also a homestead. I do not keep mean animals (they go to “freezer camp”). The homestead provides opportunities to safely interact with baby animals and learn about where our food comes from. Last fall I had an unexpected litter of piglets (called them my “whoopsie-babies”) and the runt was in a crate in the house for a little extra care.

All the animals are under vet care and are fully vaccinated and regularly wormed. There are also multiple fences between the children and the animals. Interaction is closely supervised - except the turkeys... I’m still trying to figure out how to fence them properly. Veronica in particular loves to watch the children when they play outside.

I have air conditioning for those muggy summer days, but I also have plenty of large tree shade to enjoy. My furnace is gas and the well is tested yearly for safety.

Children nap in proper cribs, or on toddler cots. Meals are family style using booster seats or high chairs and I have wooden, corelle, or stainless steel plates (trying to move away from plastic). Cups are 360* cups to promote proper drinking habits. If a child takes a bottle, parents are asked to provide the bottle and its contents.

I have up to date first aid and CPR training and a clear police background check.

Lastly, I am required by law to disclose that I am not licensed or affiliated with an agency.

I will happily send you an email copy of my Parents Handbook which goes in to greater detail about the daycare and answer any questions you may have before we set up an in-person interview.
Admission conditions
I cannot accommodate peanut/tree nut allergies. Similarly, we are located on a homestead farm so there are animals nearby (separate from the children's area)
