Small Wonders Dayhome & Playschool is a Waldorf & Reggio-inspired private play garden located in the community of Legacy SE.
I have been in the dayhome business for 5 years, have 18 plus years of unschooling, nanny experience. I am also a trained Behaviour Therapist working with special needs (autistic & on other SPD).
I run a carefully structured, fun-loving program that focuses on the spirit of simplicity.
One aspect of Waldorf and Reggio philosophy that I love is the fact that a child does not need shelves, and boxes full of expensive toys. In fact, too many toys create a disregard for the toys that really hold to his/her interests.
Small Wonders is all about capturing the essence of play, in an uncluttered environment.
In my home,TV is an after-thought. It does not mean that my family never watches TV, but during our days, we are busy learning & growing. Children in my care learn and play without media influence.
I believe in story-time, circle time, lots of outdoor time and encourage healthy play while providing a home like rhythm. I provide a regular napping time, healthy snacks and gentle guidance, ensuring a lot of structure throughout the day.
As a facilitator of play I help the children explore all aspects of creativity in baking, painting, gardening and exploring (to name a few).
The children learn songs in English & French, dress- up, and take part in role-playing which provides rich material for the imagination and teach about the natural world.
Our home is surrounded by parks and a lot of space for exploration and nature walks. We also celebrate each season with a nature table, book of the month theme, and crafts, as well as special projects & events.
