Description

Arlene's Child Care Program at the heart of UBC campus has been serving UBC faculty, staff, and student parents for 17 years. I provide tailored, full-time care for only 2 children from 1 month old to 60 months old, allowing for a phenomenal amount of individual attention. As you can see in my photographs, where I am mostly holding or very close to the children, I am their number one, best, interactive play partner, teacher and care provider.

I live in a new luxury condominium at UBC, near majestic Pacific Spirit Park and the UBC Farm, and adjacent to beautiful Mundell Park in the design-award winning new Wesbrook Place Neighbourhood. My home is child safe, bright, clean, organized, welcoming, and is a happy, private place.

Tailored Infant Child Care is my specialty because I have abundant experience caring for premature babies, as my own children were born 1 and 2 months early. Most of my clients over the past 17 years have brought me their infants.

My program is annually registered with the local CCRR center, I have excellent references, a clear background check, my class 5 Driver's License, my FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate, my Emergency First Aid & CPR-c Certificate, and I take at least 4 hours of professional development workshops every year.

I have cared for children from 6 of the 7 continents of the world, and I have experience caring for children whose first language is not English. Children under my gentle care benefit tremendously from everyday exposure to my careful, clear, grammatically correct, spoken English.

Many of my clients say I am the most patient woman in the world. I adore children and I have a knack for seeing their point of view. Because I focus on making learning experiences fun, children under my gentle care learn effectively. Typically my toddlers know well the whole alphabet and their numbers up to at least 10. One of my current toddlers has recently been self-focusing on using the right subject/object and possessive pronouns, and I have been calmly encouraging her to reciprocate with good manners when people in the neighbourhood make a fuss over how cute she is. She has transformed from a shy infant to a confident and physically agile toddler with a great sense of humour.

I teach the children American Sign Language, and I have recently experienced a 6-month old baby signing a short sentence for me.

I have a Bachelor of Science deree majoring in biochemistry. During my studies, I worked at a hospital gaining experience working in quarantined environments so, even during this Pandemic, my clients say my care is "next level".

I also have experience as the Deputy Emergency Preparedness Director at my condo building, and was involved when the University Neighbourhood Association Emergency Preparedness Committee collaborated with UBC Safey & Risk Service to develop a Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Plan. As such, I have developed a thorough, proactive Emergency Preparedness component for my child care program, so that your child can focus on exploring & growing, and you can focus on your career!

If you are looking for safe, quality, loving, full-time child care on, or near, UBC campus, then please feel welcome to contact me by text, email, or telephone, 604 928 6309.
