EELCC provides high quality early learning, and child care for children from ten months to five years of age, from Monday to Thursday, 8am to 5pm. Providing children with a professional, safe, clean, and well maintained early childhood environment. In this environment all furniture, and materials are early childhood sized, and developmental appropriate. The atmosphere is calm, and invites learning through play.
The program is run by a Registered Early Childhood Educator with over 20 years of experience. She holds two associate degrees, with regularly adding new knowledge through workshops, certificate programs, and online learning. I have my food handling certificate, CPR-C (Infant CPR), registered at the college of early childhood educators, as our profession is a regulated profession. She has her police vulnerable sector check, all medicals up to date (flu shot, tb-test, triple Covid-19 vaccinated, etc.), excels in curriculum, and behavior guidance. She takes her studies in continuous professional learning seriously, and spends many hours researching, and studying. Our overall teaching style is between gentle and respectful parenting/teaching.
At EELCC we believe that children are entitled to the best opportunities that support the emotional, social, creative, cognitive, physical, creative, and intellectual growth of the children. Building self-identity, self esteem, independence, a sense of community responsibility, and mutual respect. We provide an environment that fosters active learning, autonomy, democratic freedom, multiculturalism, a sense of safety, caring, comfort, and belonging.
Structure, and routine are our daily base in large blocks of time to provide the children the opportunity to get fully emerged in their play. Without ever having to rush, the children get the chance to explore the world around them, figure out how everything works, and how they fit in to all that.
At EELCC we believe that children are competent, active learners, who learn through play, and the world around us is the best teaching tool. Children are individual learners, with RECE’s as guides, children take the lead in their learning. The focus on individual learning allows children to work at their own pace, and to take ownership of their learning.
EELCC's focus is on outdoor schooling, and STEAM. Our preferences are for natural materials, teaching life skills, some serious vegetable gardening, and food experiences. We are big fans of positive parenting, we use positive behavior guldens, and love "the wall as the third teacher".
As our RECE's roots, and start of her career was early childhood education in the Nordic style, known from countries such as Sweden, and Denmark which is play based, child lead, outdoors, and active learning. She integrated this into the Canadian curriculum, with understanding of the CCEYA (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014).
Small group care provides the children the opportunity to emerge in interpersonal communication, how to interact with their peers, how to read non verbal communication. As 70% off our communication is non verbal, it is very important for children in early childhood to learn this language. It is their first language, and having peers around to model, and interact with, is a great benefit.
For me as an RECE the core of my teaching is helping children recognize their needs and emotions, and provide them with the language to express these. Provide them with the tools, strategies, and support to learn to understand, and how to work with all their strong emotions.
At the core of my caring is respect, love, empathy, children's perspective, mutual respect, consistency, following through, modeling, and co-regulation. This provides an environment in which students feel safe, loved, happy to be at child care, and comfortable with their new surroundings. For me to learn, and understand the children's personalities, so I can use this knowledge to customize the care for each individual child.
I believe it is very beneficial for children in all aspects of early childhood development, to receive such schooling in a small group with different ages, with the same RECE every day. In an environment that grows with them, and individualized lesson plans.
Being a parent myself, I understand very well that the start of your child's first child care experience is nerve wrecking. Therefore I make an effort to keep parents well informed on their child's day with the use of a child care phone app. This provides parents with updates on meals, toileting, and nap time. As well as individual, and group photos on the child's timeline every day, and at times short videos.
EELCC respects and complies with the rules, and regulations for child care as set out by the government of Canada, and the province of Ontario. We strictly follow the CCEYA (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014), and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice from The College of ECE.
EELCC is a strong advocate for home child care providers to become eligible for individual licensing of their child care business. We are making strong efforts to voice the needs of families and students to have the freedom to choose their preferred form of child care that fits their families needs.
As we cannot obtain a license at this moment of time, we are excluded from the $10 dollar per day day(child)care, however there is always the opportunity to claim ones rebate on child care costs during ones taxes. As we are a fully incorporated business, we provide invoices via quick books, where one can find our business number, as well the annual tax receipt for this purpose.
Unfortunately EELCC does not have the opportunity to provide a 100% allergy safe environment, as well as limited resources for neurodivergent children. We hope to see this change in the near future, however this all depends on our government, and how they will reorganize the child care and early learning in Ontario.
Unfortunately independent home child care providers are not eligible to get licensed at this time, however a license is not required to own and operate a home child care.
According to the law, independent home child care is allowed to operate with five children of which there can be no more than three children under the age of two. Etobicoke Early Learning and Child Care (EELCC) operates as a legally unlicensed independent home child care. |
