*I have a very natural parenting style. I believe in a combination of attachment parenting and RIE; both are responsive to the child’s needs and work towards building secure attachments. Attachment parenting focuses on building healthy attachments through physical connectedness, while RIE emphasizes respect and trust of the child.
*After much research, I believe that play-based learning is the best approach to childcare.
*I believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. I take children out in all types of weather (within reason). We love playing in the snow, jumping in puddles, going on nature walks and exploring the nearby trails. We enjoy walking to nearby parks as well as backyard play. In spring we plant an organic vegetable garden, children love to see how the seeds transform, and of course picking what they planted for delicious fresh meals and snacks.
*I encourage self-directed play with arts and crafts. We do this through loose craft time where the children create whatever their hearts desire with the supplied materials.
*We have free-play time that includes playing dress up, tinker trays, discovery baskets, sensory bins, and other age appropriate toys/materials. You’ll notice that my space is not set up like other daycares. I believe in the less-is-more approach. I prefer to use natural elements and neutral colours in my setting.
* I lead a very health conscious lifestyle and run my home daycare with the same care. I use plant based non-toxic cleaners that are stored out of reach.
*Hot and nutritious home-made meals and snacks, including breakfast and lunch. My menu has been made in synchrony with a Holistic Nutritionist.
*I offer a mix of Organic and non-organic animal products and fruits/veggies, specifically focusing on organic produce from the dirty dozen list.
*My daycare is located on the main floor of my home.
*I have up-to-date CPR & First Aid training.
*I (including husband) have an up-to-date police check and vulnerable sector check.
