PHILOSOPHY & EDUCATIONAL APPROACH
Welcome to Georgia's Street Daycare
At Georgia's Street Daycare, I offer a unique rhythm of care designed for families who need more support than preschool hours offer, but do not require full-day daycare. Rooted in the warmth of a home environment and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and the Seven Lamps of Illuminating Care, my program provides gentle structure, open-ended play, and a cozy place for children to grow.
Provider: Georgia's Street Daycare Owner/Sole Provider: Ashley Verhoef Email: georgiasstreetdaycare@gmail.com Phone: (778) 866 2883 Address: 4388 Georgia Street, Burnaby, BC
At the heart of my home-based childcare program is a deep commitment to nurturing the whole child-socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually-through relationships, responsive environments, and meaningful exploration.
Social-emotional development is the foundation of lifelong learning. Children deserve care and education that honours their emotional world, encourages self-expression, and supports the development of empathy, resilience, and confidence. I strive to create a space where children feel safe, seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, I view children as capable, curious, and full of potential. Learning emerges through inquiry, play, and investigation, and I value the environment as the third teacher. Open-ended materials, natural elements, and outdoor experiences are essential tools in our daily rhythms, sparking creativity, problem-solving, and connection to the world around us
Collaboration is at the core of my teaching practice. Learning is co-constructed between children and educators, between children and their peers, and between home and care. Families are not just clients but vital partners in their child's growth and development. I actively seek to build strong, reciprocal relationships with parents and caregivers through open communication, trust, and shared intention. Informed ed by the Seven Lamps of Illuminating Care, every child has the right to equitable care and quality education, regardless of background, culture, language, ability, or family structure. My program is a welcoming space for diverse learners, including neurodiverse children and those from all
walks of life. I am committed to practicing cultural humility, inclusive language, and accessibility in everything I do.
Families are always encouraged to bring forward any questions or concerns directly. Open and respectful communication helps ensure that everyone feels heard and supported. If an issue cannot be resolved together, families may contact the Fraser Health Licensing Officer for additional guidance.
Through pedagogical documentation, I make children's learning visible, capturing their voices, questions, and stories. These moments inform my curriculum, ensuring that the learning journey is shaped by the children's interests, identities, and experiences.
I aim to create a warm, joyful, and inclusive environment where children can flourish one moment of discovery, one relationship, and one act of care at a time. |
