Opening for child 2 years
Start date January 2023 or thereafter
Curriculum
At Curious Kids Home Daycare our focus is emergent, child directed curriculum. We implement activities inspired by the children and sparked by their interests. This could be an ongoing interest or something spontaneous and on the spot!
We focus on connections, encouragement, safety and trust.
It is an English program; however we do add in basic French concepts throughout the day.
Activities
We encourage imagination and creativity by offering a variety of open-ended materials ( loose parts) which allow children to engage and expand in their play. Some examples are recycled materials, wooden toys, and unique items that can be used in a variety of ways. It's all about imagination!
We focus on sensory exploration each and everyday! This includes indoor & outdoor sensory bins filled with items perfect for scooping, dumping, filling and pouring. Using tools such as eye droppers, tongs, scissors and tweezers help develop fine motor skills. These skills are the first steps needed for children to begin to write, paint and cut paper.
Development
We encourage self help skills and independence. It's important to set them up for success. Allowing children to develop life skills helps foster their confidence and a sense of autonomy. We add simple responsibilities in our daily routine. We encourage this through simple activities such as:
Cooking & baking activities
Practicing buttons, snaps , shoes and zippers
Cleaning up a spill, sweeping, wiping the table etc.
Problem solving in everyday learning.
Outdoor Learning
Children need to explore their world in a tactile way. Outdoor play is very important to us- rain or shine! Let's practice crawling, running, rolling & balancing! Let's jump, hop and skip! Let's see what is happening in nature. Let's learn about worms, bugs, plants and animals. Let's explore mud, sand, water, leaves, wood and snow. Let's build forts, structures and anything with our imagination!
Building Connections
Building connections with children is essential for learning. Children need to feel safe and supported in their environment. We strive for strong, open communication between children & families. |
