Description

Coronavirus has set a unprecedented standard for where we are going as a society and a community at whole. It has forced many people and families apart but it has also brought many of us closer together.

One of the amazing things it has done is put us back in the drivers seat of our children’s education. We have the privilege to be transported and given this opportunity to have a large say in our children’s daily learning experiences. To a time when education was taught more at home then in a large, overcrowded classroom with burnt out teachers. To a smaller and tighter knit group of children and families who are deeply involved in how and what their children experience in life and the people they become because of the relationships they form while learning and living. It has allowed us to say no to a education system that is failing us and our children.

While over a large amount of our children are just shuttled forward like cattle from grade to grade, monotonously completing worksheets careful not to excel too much ahead or fall too much behind their peers as our education system cannot handle too many different learning levels at one time. It has forced us to stop, and look at our children and really think about what this system is training them to become.

For me it was beyond a wake up call, it was an absolute life changer. Not just for my life, but my husbands, my children and hopefully my grandchildren’s children lives. For all of you families out there that have a child that learns differently, or that is a gifted learner, or have been told that your child is too emotional for the classroom or that the school is not prepared to handle the form of learning or behavior your child exhibits, Fairview Learning Pod is for you.

We are a small family pod based out of Mississauga. Currently my two boys are being homeschooled with me and a teacher that runs daily classes full time in our home. We like to incorporate as many styles of learning as we can in our day, auditory, visual, kinesthetic and reading/writing. We have a large learning space in our home complete with a community work table, a projector, some nice and cozy reading couches and benches, ample amount of books, a whiteboard area, chalkboard and some cubby spaces for all of our arts and crafts! We also use the remainder of our home like our main floor play space, complete with hundreds of toys, our backyard play structure, basketball area, swimming pool and learning garden.

One of my other passions is animals. I am absolutely a kindred spirit with animals and I think they can all teach us kindness and empathy that we can’t always learn from each other. I have been breeding Basenjis for over a year now. For those of you who don’t know Basenji’s are a hypoallergenic, bark less, short haired, medium sized dog. We have a lot (4 actually!) and we have 2-4 litters a year. So there’s always an opportunity to see and handle some small puppies running around our home. We have a busy home and have family members who are in and out and also a full time teacher and nanny as well as myself to assist with the children's care and education during the day. We also have budgies and the children are welcome to interact and enjoy these animals during the day.

It is our intention not only to educate children in the way they understand but to push them to excel above and beyond what they believe their capabilities are. But education is not just about reading and writing. It’s about becoming a whole person. Learning kindness, patience, recognizing your emotions and your bodies signals to you, making healthy and conscious choices daily to improve the world for you and the people around you. It is my hope that with your support and the support we already have in place we can not only achieve our goals but we can surpass them by leaps and bounds. There is no wrong way to learn, there are many ways to learn. We are all different, life allows us to embrace these difference and let them shine. As the quote from Mother Theresa goes “I can do things you cannot. You can do things I cannot. Together we can do great things.”

Please get in touch with me at the contact info below to discuss setting up a tour. We are looking forward to meeting you and your family and working together to achieve great things.
Admission conditions
We are breeders so we often have puppies in our home. Although our dogs are hypoallergenic and the breed is unable to bark we still have multiple dogs and puppies that are present in the home. The dogs are contained to the main floor of the home and the children do not interact with them but can pass them while on their way outside or when they come downstairs for lunch. We also have three budgies. Families must be ok with the children being in a home with animals. Although the animals are not part of the children's daily activities sometimes we can involve the puppies in the learning lessons because they can often teach the children empathy and compassion as well as being aware of and caring for an animal that needs help more then just caring for themselves.
