Description

ABOUT ME:

Though just opening my day home November 2007, I have extensive experience with children. When my children were small, I did after-school care in my home as well as fulltime child care for family. Currently, I am a home educating parent of 3 older girls ages 12-17. The previous seven years, I was employed as a school bus driver. I have been involved in various community activities such as being a leader in the Girl Guides of Canada Organization, Sunday School teacher and childcare provider within my church and currently I am a Commissioned Officer in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps working with kids 12-18. I am level one certified and hope to be upgrading soon. I am St. John Ambulance Certified Standard First Aid - Level C CPR. I also receive training in leadership through the military that I believe strengthens my skills as a provider.

As a home educator, I enjoy providing learning activities and encouraging appreciation of the arts and music. I believe that good childcare starts with love, attention and the opportunity to learn. Though having a big home is an asset and very convenient, I believe any home, which is able to provide great alternatives for learning activites, is what really counts.

My home offers a fenced backyard with lots of room to play, which is located on a quiet cul-de-sac and is very close to Lakeland Ridge and Holy Spirit Schools. I offer healthy snacks and meals. I encourage children to follow a schedule and maintain a certain standard of behaviour. For discipline, we use the redirection method and impose time outs and loss of privileges for negative behaviours. For positive behaviours, I've used reward stickers as well as implementing "Special Helper" days which I believe helps children learn the value of taking turns. I stress the golden rule to all day home children to “Treat others the way YOU want to be treated”.

SCHEDULE SAMPLE:

0630-0800 - children arrive/ Breakfast served 0730
0800-0930 - playtime with educational toys
0930-1000 - morning snack time
1000-1100 - playtime outside (weather permitting)
1100-1130 - playtime inside (crafts, music, stories)
1130-1230 - lunch time
1230-1430 - quiet time play/rest while babies sleep
1430-1500 - afternoon snack
1500-1600 - outside play (weather permitting)
1600-1630 - free playtime
1630-1730 - children prepare to go home

PAY SCHEDULE:

FULL TIME CHILD CARE FEES: Monthly care of 14 days or more per month to a maximum of 10 hours per day is $680 per month.

PART TIME CHILD CARE FEES: Daily care under 14 days per month up to a maximum of ten hours per day is $40 per day.

HOURLY CHILD CARE FEES: Hourly care of 5 hours or less per day is $7 per hour.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE is available as well but transportation is not offered with this day home due to the fact that I care for babies.

**NOTE:** Fees are due on the 1st of each month with a late fee penalty of $50 for payments received after the 5th. Postdated cheques alleviate this problem and are much appreciated for all concerned. If payment is not received in due time, child care will be terminated until account is cleared.

REGISTRATION:

Due to past experience, I don't "hold" spots. Guarantee of spot will only be when registration and full payment have been made.

MEALS:

**THIS IS A PEANUT FRIENDLY HOME**

Meals are included in the fees, however it must be understood that the food offered MUST adhere to the Canada Food Guide Standards. I can not allow sugary junk food to be brought here and any child who refuses to eat the healthy choices offered will not be catered to. If health of the child becomes an issue and this policy is not supported by the parents at home, termination of care may be considered as one child's eating habits can cause a great deal of upset with the other children.

PROGRAM:

I present a schedule of activities concentrating on monthly THEMES. I stress that educational activities be offered instead of TV or video games. I offer Baby Signing for the real young ones. Short movies or book reading are offered during "Quiet Times" when the babies are needing to sleep and the other children need to be quiet.

POLICIES:

I follow Government instituted policies and guidelines. This offers you, the parents, the assurance that your child will be receiving the best care possible. These policies are thoroughly presented upon registration.

HOLIDAYS/CLOSURES: (updated Apr 09) I observe all statutory holidays which means I close on those days. I will be planning 7 days holiday in July 2009 and possibly a few days in November will be needed. I try to give as much notice as possible when planning these events so as to make your planning easy. A credit for the days I am not available will be applied to your account. (Please note: The credit is based solely on my paid portion multiplied by the standard 22 working days of the month, not the daily rate of $40 per day)

SICKNESS:

My policy is that you do not bring your child to our home when they are sick. Mild issues need to be discussed with me before I am able to care for any child. This policy allows the spread of illness to be controlled.

ABSENCES:

If your child is absent for sickness or otherwise, no refund for days missed is issued. The fee for each spot is charged as a whole month, not according to whether the child is present or not.

CONTRACTS:

A standard two week notice is required if child care is to be terminated either by the Provider or Parent. Written notice must be received with dates indicating departure or termination.

If you are interested in setting up an appointment for interview, call 780-640-9083 or 780-908-6478.
