I am excitedly preparing my home for the opening of Little Sunshine's Home Childcare in July 2009 my home childcare. I have spent the last 6 years working with children and adults with special needs as an Instructor Therapist in Autism at McMaster Sick Children's Hospital, an Educational Assistant with the Niagara Catholic School Board and a Support Worker with Bethesda Group Homes. However, my most important position that I hold is a Mom of 3. My oldest daughter is 12 years old, my son is 2 and a half and my youngest daughter will be turning 1 on May 27 of this year.
I am an Early Childhood Educator through Niagara College and I hold a Diploma in Educational Assistant and Special Needs, also through Niagara College. I am currently completing my Bachelor of Professional Arts degree majoring in Human Services and Psychology.
I provide a safe, clean, warm and loving environment where the children in my care can learn and grow to their fullest potential.
A monthly schedule will be sent home with weekly themes, events, outings, etc along with a full menu. All meals are in accordance with Canada's Food Guide.
We are fortunate to have 2 large fenced in yards. One holds our inground pool and will be off limits during daycare hours. Please note however, that I was a lifeguard and swimming instructor and so am very aware of the safety requirements surrounding a pool. The second yard has a large playground structure, gross motor activities and lots of room for the children to run and play safely. Weather permitting we will spend our time outdoors as much as possible. (Refer to the daily schedule below)
With my educational background, I will utilize all teaching opportunities to teach your child. This includes daily circle times, crafts, and reading times. At this time, computer will not be used and television will be used rarely (bad weather days, quiet times).
An example of a day at Little Sunshine's:
7:30 - 8:30 : Breakfast, quiet activities (reading, puzzles, fine motor activities)
8:30 - 9:30 : Outdoor play, gross motor activities
9:30 - 9:45 : Circle
9:45 - 10:00 : Toilet, Hand Washing
10:00 - 10:15 : Snack
10:15 - 11:30 : Outdoor play, walk, outing
11:30 - 11:45 : Toilet, Hand Washing
11:45 - 12:30 : Lunch
12:30 - 2:30 : Quiet Time, Reading and Learning
2:30 - 3:00 : Craft
3:00 - 4:30 : Outdoor play, gross motor activities
4:30 - 5:00 : Clean up
5:00 - 5:30 : Quiet Activities
My home is open to all children ages 12 months to 11 years of age and to children of all needs. I am CPR and First Aid certified. Our home is open to anyone wanting to meet our family and for review.
