[The rate listed is for care from 5.5 hours up to 9 hrs. per day. Rate may be a bit less, depending on number of days, or drop-off, or pick-up times. Four or 5 full days is preferred, but I may be able to do some part time, at times. Care less than 5.5 hours, may be considered, depending on number of days needed. Care over 9 hours would be extended care, with an extended rate. I may be able to do care after 5:00, if parent works very close].
Welcome to my home child care, where your child will be looked after, in a stimulating and caring way! I offer a fun, safe environment, with learning experiences for your child. I offer care for up to 5 children. I am located in the east end, southern area of the city, known as the Beavermead subdivision. I am very close to Ashburnham Dr., on a street just off of Marsdale Dr. I’m not too far from Lansdowne St. and Hwy 115, and I’m only about 7 mins. from the downtown area. I have cared for children from different areas of this city, and from towns east of Peterborough, as well.
I provide a comfortable learning environment, which encourages children to explore and make choices, by learning through play and activities. I have been providing home child care since February 1999. I provide full days and maybe some part days care. I welcome pre-school age children from age 12 months to the start of Kindergarten. If a child has already been attending my daycare, and they start Kindergarten, I may have space for them to come on P.D. days, or their school holidays. I have experience with children of all ages (In the past, I have cared for children from ages 7 mos-12 yrs.).
How Does Learning Happen? It is organized around 4 foundational conditions, that are considered essential to optimal learning and healthy development for children. They are belonging, engagement, expression, and well-being.
The children will take part in various activities, which will provide an opportunity to learn skills at their own pace, and to become independent. They become proud of themselves! I provide a routine day, which the children feel very comfortable with, yet allow for flexibility, if needed. I offer a well-balanced program that includes:
* individual/group activities, structured/unstructured activities, active/quiet times.
* a playroom, full of toys (many open-ended) and play centres, for self-directed play. I also have an assortment of creative materials, including nature items from the great outdoors, to sort and pattern with. I read stories here as well.
* a family room, where we do music/movement/language time (rhymes, singing, musical instruments, dancing, and reading), more toys, some activities, book bin, and some computer time for various activities.
* the kitchen, where we do art and activities (seasonal, holiday, and general), sensory, puzzles, colouring, painting, fun sheets, match-up games, etc. E-learning is educational and fun too.
* outdoor time—The children get to play and explore. I have a fully fenced backyard, which includes play equipment, (seasonal...sandbox, water bin, and a shed with riding toys and other toys). We also play out front, at times. We go on neighbourhood walks, and we can visit 4 area parks, seasonally. We go outside every day, except in poor weather/extreme temperatures. I am located in a quiet neighbourhood.
* I use separate rooms, for each child at nap time.
* I have child care certificates, from the Family Child Care Training Program, for Level 1 and 2.
* I have also taken other child care courses as well, and continue to do so.
* I have a childproofed home, infant and child CPR/First Aid,
Safe Food Handler's certificate, police checks, references on request, and of course, a smoke-free home.
* I offer healthy snacks and lunch, send some photos, and receipts are issued yearly. I write a short-term journal, for new families.
* We have 2 friendly female cats here, and they sleep mostly thru' the day.
My goal is to make learning fun, and to offer parents a safe place to leave their child during the day! As a mother, I knew/know it is important to find quality care, where you will feel comfortable leaving your child. I’m pleased that parents have felt confident with my care, and entrusted their children to me!
