*PART-TIME or OCCASIONAL ONLY*
I'm a fun, energetic and conscientious mom to three kids (8, 5 and almost 2) in Bridlewood, Kanata, looking to provide part-time or occasional child care to infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers or school-aged children. Besides mothering my own children, I have lots of experience with children through providing child care, working at day camps in the past and working as a car seat technician for the past several years. I am also a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Social Work program at Carleton where I learned a great deal about child development.
I offer an inviting, natural learning environment that includes a variety of beautiful wooden toys such as a play kitchen and doll house as well as other natural learning materials such as beeswax crayons and hand-dyed play silks. We do a lot of hands-on activities such as: crafts, baking, painting, colouring, dough-making, building and gardening, as well as other fun and engaging activities like singing, dancing, story-sharing, going for walks through the neighbourhood or small forest trails, and playing at a local playground (usually at least once a day). We do not have cable, but occasionally will watch a video if the weather insists on keeping us in all day.
I serve well-rounded, nutritious and tasty meals that the kids often help create. There is a big emphasis on local and organic food in our kitchen, and all animal products including cheese, butter, meat and others are always organic. We receive our spring and summer vegetables from a local farm that we have purchased a CSA share in. We supplement this produce with our own container garden that the kids help tend and take pride in growing and harvesting all spring and summer. Last year we grew tomatoes and beans, and this year we've already planted seeds for a much bigger variety of vegetables and flowers!
I practice a gentle approach to teaching that includes a focus on the environment as a catalyst for kids' behaviour. This means I look to how I can manage the environment to meet the social, emotional and physical needs of the kids in the belief that kids will be most able to manage their experiences when their environment meets their needs. For younger children, I practice redirection. |
