I am a mother and an experienced teacher. I have 14 years of experience working with children in all kinds of settings, including teaching, daycare, and as a nanny. I have my police check, current First Aid and CPR. I can offer extended hours, including occasional evenings, weekends and overnights.
As a teacher and as an early childhood educator I think the most important thing a young child needs to learn is that they are safe and loved. Children also need to know how to learn and how to communicate, and I believe that one of the most important aspects of my role as a childcare provider is to encourage the growth of these major developments, while providing a stimulating, safe and predictable environment. In order to accomplish this, I use a multi-interactional approach which includes plenty of hugs, reading, singing and speaking with the child, encouragement to explore their world and express their thoughts and feelings, as well as taking them on outings. I try to make every experience a learning experience.
Young children benefit by being exposed to a variety of interesting and stimulating activities. I believe in child-directed learning. Each week I will do mini-themes, where we will talk about and learn about different subjects (i.e. seasons, the jungle, bears, trucks, the farm, etc). I have a wide variety of toys and books that children can choose to play with. I also borrow toys and books from the library and the toy lending library so that children have more choice, and do not grow bored with the toys and books that we have.
I will provide a healthy lunch and two nutritional snacks each day. I follow Canada’s nutritional guide when planning my meals in order to ensure the best for your growing child’s body and mind.
