I am a mom to three (13, 7 & 5 - all will be full-time students come September 2010) with several years of home-based daycare experience. I hold a current certification in CPR/First Aid. My pet-free, non-smoking home is located on a quiet dead-end street in Penetang (close to the arena) with stops on many bus routes right at the end of the street. We have a large, fenced in, child-friendly backyard with a play structure; covered sandbox; tons of toys and green space to just run. Inside, the children have 2 'major' play areas with many toys, books and games.
I provide nutritious meals and snacks (for the most part - we DO sometimes make yummy treats that we need to taste test). If a child is on formula, or special foods (allergies or baby food), then parents are asked to provide this.
When it comes to discipline, I always try to re-direct first, and as a last resort use time-out. Each "offense" is always unique, so different tactics are used depending on the offense.
The children in my care are treated with the utmost respect and basically become an extended member of our family. As a home-based provider, I am more like "Mom" and don't follow a strict schedule (napping and meals are generally consistant) . . . instead we tend to make up our day as we go along. Our days are child directed and child centred. We only do as much or as little as the kids want to. We do many activities during the day - outside play; walks; cooking; crafts; games; reading. We often have 'theme' days (Teddy Bear picnic; wacky olympics; backwards day, etc).
We spend a great deal of time outside (in all seasons) so ask that children come armed with appropriate dress and equipment for each season. We also do A LOT of exploring and investigating of the world around us, so I ask that all children have a change of clothes each day, and that they don't wear their "Sunday best" - because we DO get dirty (we puddle jump, dig in sand, garden, and just 'play' hard).
I'm always open with the parents and ask for the same in return. Open and good communication helps us to work together in the best interest of each child. I try to integrate each child into our 'family' in the easiest and gentlest way (daycare transition can definitely be hard on a child).
Reciepts given on request.
My rates are $3/hour per child. I only charge for the time that a child is in care (no holidays, vacation time or sick days charged).
I am available for before and after school children and part time set ups. At present, I have several children I look after, but most are part time with sporadic schedules, so it's hard to pin down a number. At any given time there are typically 2-4 daycare children in care.
