I am a former British nanny and qualified nurse. I have been in and out of Day-care for over 24 years. I have excellent references from clients who have been with me over a period of 8 years through a couple of pregnancies.
I feel very strongly about encouraging children to have a very healthy self-esteem and strongly encourage independance. I talk with the children in my care constantly and encourage them to talk back!!
I have a great love for the outdoors and nature. My own daughter has her own pony and two or three times a week we are up at the farm after school. The children in my care always love it there and can't wait to go there. I also have passes to the various provincial parks and farms in the area.
In the summer months we pack a picnic in the morning and leave for the day!!
In the winter months (weather permitting) we still manage to make it outside as much as possible.
I have fostered animals in the past. The children have experienced many different litters of kittens and learned to have great respect for the animals in my care. My border collie, Jake goes with us everywhere. The children adore him!!
I believe that children learn best through play so I teach them colours, alphabet, counting etc. this way. We listen to music and I love to do crafts.
I am not rigid with my schedule (except for naps) and am always open to the childrens ideas of places to go etc. (older children, that is!) I am firm but extremely fair.
I have maintained on-going relationships with children that have left my care over the years as I understandibly grow attached to them and they to me. I have three 19 year olds that will attest to that!!!!
I LOVE my job and hope to continue to do it for many years to come.
