I am a very energetic mother of two. My eldest is 25 now and my youngest is turning 9 this summer. I have been running a daycare from my home for 8 years now and thoroughly enjoy it!
My hours are 7:30 - 5:00pm. We have a somewhat structured routine throughout the day which includes: Free play; snack time; outing to the park or drop-in centre; lunch; storytime; nap; craft time; snack; circle time; outdoor play. This is usually the order however sometimes I follow the children's lead and let them choose what activities they would prefer.
During the winter we visit the local drop-in centres daily. The children do get fresh air and we still get bundled up to play outside for at least 20 minutes per day. When the weather is nice we spend a lot of time outside. We often have picnic snacks and eat our lunches outside at the picnic table.
Admission conditions
During the school year I take off 2 weeks at Christmas and the March Break. My husband is a teacher and my daughter is in full-day school, so I also take off 4-5 (unpaid) weeks in the summer so we can enjoy quality time at our cottage. These openings are obviously ideal for someone who is a teacher or has a great support system and can manage finding back up care.
