I am an E.C.E. graduate (1994) with my First Aid and CPR certification. My experience spans 18 years and includes work as a Resource Teacher, Teacher's Aid in JK/SK classroom, Head Teacher in Senior and Junior Preschool and Infant classes, private nanny, mother to my own children and finally, 11 years running my own private daycare.
Since children do most of their learning through play, that's what we do A LOT of! My home offers a clean, warm, nurturing environment which includes our regular living space, a fully functional daycare area (including craft area, dramatic play, gross and fine motor development, reading and manipulatives). The best feature is our outdoor environment. Located on a heavily forested, one acre lot, we have regular access to the great outdoors as it was intended to be. The children spend a great deal of time outside in our nicely equipped play area and for daily walks and small adventures into the forest. I offer lots of play time with a strong lean to environmental awareness, curiosity and respect for nature. Encounters (at a distance of course) with wildlife are common as deer can often be seen in the back yard.....wild turkeys too on a good day!
Meals (breakfast and lunch) and snacks are typically home made and very healthy. There are some exceptions which include ice cream and freezies in the summer and the gingerbread cookies at the annual Christmas party. The children often assist in preparing baked foods for their meals.
We enjoy the odd offsite trip to the local butterfly conservatory, park and out to lunch for some "freaky food" from faraway places. The favourite, so far, is Vietnamese food....it's amazing what kids will eat in the right environment!
There are also some afterhours activities for the whole family. During the summer, the children participate in setting up our weekly potluck barbeques for their parents. In addition, there is the annual "Movie in the Woods Night". We string up a big screen and rent a great kids' movie to enjoy alongside a bonfire and lots of treats. These, of course, are not mandatory, but certainly enjoyable for everyone.
On occasion we are fortunate enough to have a litter of abandoned or orphaned kittens staying with us for a while. The children participate in the bottle feeding and day to day care of these little ones. Ultimately, we adopt the babies out to happy families. I believe this is an invaluable (and fun!) experience for children of all ages. It is a great exercise in empathy, responsibility, kindness and love.
I absolutely love my job and am very proud of the environment I've had the good fortune to provide. We all have such a great time here! I look forward to welcoming some new children to my home. |

In addition to the odd batch of kittens, I do have some rescued pets. They are very gentle and accustomed to having children around. There have been no incidents thus far. There are firm rules for the children surrounding our pets which are in place for their safety. The interaction between the children and animals is very closely monitored and limited. Children with allergies will not likely fare well here.
Please note my location. I am not in the town of Stouffville. I am locate 10 mins North of Stouffville off of Highway #48 in Ballantrae. I am located approximately 7 mins from 2 Highway #404 on ramps.
This is NOT a peanut free environment. I do have an Epipen on hand if needed, but children with nut allergies should steer clear. |
