Description

I have been a Child & Youth Worker for 17 years and have two daughters of my own. I have a current police check and am First Aid & CPR trained.

Bug n’ Bean Child Care Offers:

1. A curriculum which encourages social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth.
2. Encouragement for your child to relate to others, to value friendship, and to respect all people.
3. A safe, comfortable environment for these early learning and growth processes.
4. Help for each child to develop self-discipline and independence and to deal with his/her emotions in an appropriate manner.
5. A well-balanced schedule of activity and quiet times.
6. Nutritious organic snacks and lunches that contribute to the growth and development of a happy, healthy individual.

Each child participates daily in periods of group activity, individual play, outdoor play, and quiet times. All activities are developmentally appropriate and meet each child’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs. The imagination and curiosity of every child is valued.
Your child will also gain an understanding of the world around him/her that will help him/her in later years when starting school.
It is a time when a child learns about socializing and how to co-operate with the other children. Knowledge and curiosity are developed through language stimulation, art and music activities, and by the way of challenging simple problems. Creative and constructive activities are provided in both free and guided play.

Meals and Snacks:
I provide an organic lunch and two snacks as well as beverages daily. We eat 100% whole wheat bread & pastas, non-hormonally raised meat, fish & eggs and I only serve homogenized milk, water and 100% juice to drink. With the children's tastes in mind I try to offer a wide variety of foods as this is the best time to have them try new flavours and textures. If your child has any food allergies please let me know.

Rest Time:
All children at Bug n' Bean will have rest time. To protect your child’s health, we provide a freshly sanitized crib or bed each week. All bedding is laundered at the end of the week. Of course, in case of accidents or another child requiring to use this sleeping area, the bedding would be cleaned at that time also. Although children will not be forced to go to sleep during the nap period, they will be required to rest quietly so that children who want to sleep may do so. Rest time may take place in multiple rooms depending on how children settle with others around them. I will make every effort possible to provide an environment that is quiet enough for those who need to sleep, yet not too restrictive for those who do not. I will put on quiet music to help the children to rest and may read some books while the children settle in their sleeping areas. Your child is welcome to bring a stuffed toy or a special blanket from home to use at rest time.

Toddlers begin to develop an understanding of the world around them through their senses and physical actions. To develop these skills Bug n’ Bean Child Care’s program is designed with various age appropriate experiences and exercises which will help your child develop at his/her own speed. These areas include sensory motor, psychomotor, language development, cognitive development, large and small motor skills and social and emotional development. The children are spoken, sung and read to frequently, have many different objects in their environment to see and touch and have many opportunities to develop their fine and gross motor skills.
Two year olds are beginning to develop social skills, enlarge their vocabulary and test their independence. The children have many opportunities to explore and learn about the environment. The children are spoken to frequently and are encouraged to participate daily in individual and group conversations. Toilet training, dealing with frustration, encouraging self-help skills and providing successful age appropriate experiences to enhance the child's self-concept is part of the two-year-old program.
My preschool age activities offer a balance of free play and structured individual and group activities which gives the children a well balanced preschool education. At this age children are developing more intimate peer relationships, asking questions about the world around them and developing self-discipline and control. To enhance these skills I offer activities and experiences in the areas of science, math, beginning reading and writing experiences, large and small motor skills, dramatic play, block play, creative and movement activities. Each child is viewed as a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth and development. Different levels of ability, development and learning styles are considered when developing appropriate activities.
