Are you looking for reliable and affordable child care?? Well look no further!
My name is Daina and I am a 24 year old mother of one! I am starting a family child care home and looking to take in children starting January 3rd, 2011. I am currently in the licensing process with the Manitoba Family Services and Housing department, but this is a LONG process, so I have yet to complete it. I should be fully licensed a few months into the New Year, as long as all goes well with my coordinator. I have already completed the background checks (criminal, child abuse, and prior contact) for both myself and my husband (the only adults living in our home) and everything came back with no concerns. I have e-mail copies of these documents for those parents wishing to see them.
Let me tell you a bit about myself:
I recently graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in History. I plan to obtain my Bachelor of Education in the far future, most likely through the University of Manitoba’s “weekend college” program. I discovered my love for working with children while I was in high school. I took Family Studies in grades 10 thru 12 where I was required to working with children in the classroom as part of the practicum component of the courses. After high school, I have had a variety of jobs while I was working towards my degree, but most notably were my positions with St. Amant Center and Shalom Residencies.
From 2003 – 2009 I worked for a Red River Co-op Gas Bar. I started as a gas attendant and cashier, and worked my way up to assistant manger by 2006. In the later part of 2008, I started working part time with Shalom Residencies. My job was to assist adults with mental and physical disabilities in everyday living. Our goal was to integrate the residents into “normal” society as much as possible. Also while working full time for Co-op in April of 2009 I worked part time with St. Amant as an ABA tutor. My job here was to work one-on-one with children with Autism and basically prepare them for the trials and tribulations they would be faced with once they attended school. I really enjoyed this position, but soon after starting I found out I was expecting our first, so I decided that working 3 jobs while finishing up my schooling would be to challenging while pregnant and I left St. Amant.
For the past year I have been on Maternity leave with our little girl, Breanna, but as we all know, E.I. comes to an end. I knew when I left Co-op that it was not something that I would want to return too, so in September of this year I decided to combine my love for children with my desire to be home with my little one and started the licensing process to open a home day care.
What I have to offer for children:
We have converted our basement into a child’s dream! It is filled with toys, crafts and books. For the past 3 months I have been working endlessly by collecting a variety of items to make our home as exciting and educational as possible. I do not believe in sitting children in front of a TV all day, so I have decided that there will be designated “movie times/days” (not more than 2 times a week) where I will let the children watch an appropriate movie during the afternoon quiet time.
While the children are in my care, I will provide 2 snacks and a lunch as well as drinks throughout the day. I will also structure the days with play-time, craft-time, song/rhyme time, reading-time and of course nap time. My goal is to help the children develop both physically and intellectually, so I will also incorporate outdoor play (weather permitting, of course). We live right beside Prairie Rose Elementary School so we have access to an amazing play structure, which I plan to utilize at its fullest once the warmer weather arrives.
Meals will be on a 5 week rotation and will change every season. Meal plans will be available to the parents at any time. My goal is to keep all the meals as natural and healthy as possible, and also to include a variety of different foods. All allergies will be accounted for!
Please note that we do have one cat living in our home with us.
I am currently not taking any children under the age of 1 and cannot accept subsidies until I am fully licensed by the province. I have drawn up a contract that will be discussed at our first meeting, and must be fully understood and agree upon prior to your child staying with me.
If you are interested or any other questions, please feel free to e-mail at dainasdaycare@gmail.com I will reply as quickly as possible and set up further contact information from here. References will be available upon request. Receipts will be provided for those who wish to have them.
Sincerely
Daina Codville |
