Some people use the term “Dayhome” to describe a room in their home, or a play space they have created in their basement, where the children spend the majority of their time. My definition of a “Dayhome” is opening my home and my heart to the children entrusted into my care. I have been operating ‘a home away from home’ for 10 years now. Throughout my home there are play stations where children can engage in many forms of play: Dramatic stations, Constructive stations, Sensory stations.
In the living room, up and coming chefs can explore the play kitchen, and animal lovers can learn all the sounds of the farm. For those that dance to the beat of a different drum, there are costumes, and lots of opportunities to express themselves through movement.
In the dining room, we share meals, and explore with open-ended art materials, learning to express our creativity through an array of art forms, and tuning our fine motor skills. The dining room is where we also engage in interactive instruction time.
In the bedroom we have constructive play, many forms of blocks, train sets. Sometimes we build castles, towns, and forts. Each child will also find comfort in their own bed, and a place for their own things, eliminating the need for parents to pack a bag daily.
Outside there is a large play space, with little houses, slides, sea saws, bouncy balls, and a sand table. The neighbourhood has three parks within walking distance for little feet, and to explore more of our community we frequent the library, the bird sanctuary, and the zoo.
If you are looking for quality care from an educated provider that is also Licensed, Accredited, Regulated, Monitored, and adequately Insured, call to interview … ‘a home away from home’…redefining the term “Dayhome.” |
