______________________________________________________

I have been working with children my entire life, starting with babysitting as a teenager, then working as a camp counselor, later as a live-in nanny for 3 in Victoria BC and next in a structured licensed daycare in Calgary with the babies and toddlers. Once I had my daughter I decided to start my own home daycare and have been doing it ever since.

I am a creative, crafty person who loves playing and working with children. I have lost count of the number of children to whom I have taught their letters, numbers, colours and shapes as well as how to write their name.

Every day begins with Circle Time where my Star Helper posts the date and weather and where we discuss our weekly theme which include a wide range of topics including everything from Space to Ants. I use photographs, books, videos, objects, toys as well as experiments to help teach the themes. With a heavy focus on nature and the environment, many parents tell me that I have instilled a life-long love and respect for nature in their children.

I make a big deal out of every holiday and event such as birthdays. We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. The parents provide their children with small gifts for gift exchanges during Valentine’s, Easter and Christmas.

At the end of every day I send 20 to 30 photos to all of the parents via my Iphone in order to show parents what fun things their children are doing, while in my care.

I have many educational and fun toys, all in great shape and regularly cleaned. I am also constantly adding new toys. I also have tents, tunnels, tool benches, play kitchens etc to make their day fun and enjoyable. I exchange the toys frequently throughout each day, so that the children continue to be stimulated and entertained.

The children each have comfortable, quiet and clean places to sleep. I do accommodate for a young child who still needs two naps per day.

I am an outdoor enthusiast and therefore try to spend as much time outdoor as possible, weather permitting. My yard is large and fenced-in, with a lot of fun toys to keep them busy.

I write a Daily Journal which lets the parents know what their child did, when they slept, what they ate etc.

I love to incorporate S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) into my programming by frequently doing fun, educational and age appropriate experiments and activities.

Every Friday we add Show and Tell (a favourite of the children) to our Circle Time.

My dedication to the children in my care was evident when, during the sudden COVID lockdown, despite no longer having an income, I offered families the opportunity to meet with me on ZOOM three times per week where I would read and sing to the children as well as do crafts and experiments. I would drop off all craft supplies for the week beforehand and invite older school-aged siblings to join us on ZOOM. The parents thanked me for my efforts and said that each time the ZOOM meetings ended, the kids wanted to meet again! I also made sure to drop off Easter and Birthday gifts.

I still keep in touch with past families and their children since, for a time period, they became a part of my family. Some of those children are now 30 years old and have children of their own.

If the above information appeals to you and fits with what you are looking for, then please feel free to meet with me, to see my set-up and to receive my online Information Booklet with even more details. This book includes many comments from present and former clients, parent recommendations, samples of my themes, menu samples etc etc in order to provide you with an insight on the care I provide.
I look forward to hearing from you. The best way to contact me is via email.

Sincerely,

Maria
Here are what some parents have said (many more comments in my Information Booklet)
“Thank you for all that you do, for making my family feel like a part of your family. I’ve never met more caring, selfless and kindhearted people”. Amie and Chris

“We can’t thank you enough for the love and care you’ve given Henry over the last 3 years. You’ve taught him so many important lessons, from how to write his name to how to be a considerate person to how to love and respect nature. The stars were certainly aligned for us the day we met you.” Resa and John

“Thank you so much for all the effort and imagination you put into making each day a fun, safe and educational environment. You have a truly exceptional gift when it comes to children.” Heather and Alex
Admission conditions
I still implement COVID screening and cleaning protocols in order to keep the children, their families and my family safe and healthy. I provide parents with an online Safety Protocol Manual.
