Vision and Mission Statement:
The aim of Tiny Hands Daycare is to provide quality childcare for young children in a caring, supportive and structured environment.
Location:
Tiny Hands Daycare will operate out of the home of Kim Henderson. Situated in Cataraqui Woods, it is 5 minutes walking distance away from Cataraqui Woods Elementary School, and Cataraqui Woods park. Minutes from the 401 and West Kingston Area, the home, located in a cul-de-sac has an enclosed backyard, with a playhouse, sand table, and moderately sized grass area. The daycare will operate on the main floor of the home, which has easy access to a powder room, kitchen and backyard.
Services
Description of Services:
Tiny Hands Daycare will provide a caring environment for young children. Meals and activities will be provided on a daily basis, with weekly plans available for the perusal of parents. When possible, parents will be given daily reports on their children. Activities will be age and developmentally appropriate and will focus on fine and gross motor skills, social skills, and language development. Music, crafts, story-time, and independent play are some of the activities that will be provided. These activities will be created through teaching resources at the disposal of the owners.
Management and Staffing
Organizational Structure:
Tiny Hands Daycare is co-owned and operated by Kim Henderson and Hope Slack. They also make up the principal staff members caring for the children. Future plans include adding support staff or part time on-call supply staff.
Management Team:
Kim Henderson has 22 years of experience working with children, through babysitting, working at camps and childcare centers, and as a substitute teacher at both the Durham District School Board and Kawathra Pine Ridge District School Board. She also has a Bachelor of Education in the Primary/Junior grades from Queen’s University, and has over the course of 22 years maintained First Aid and CPR certification. Experience with special needs children was gained through working at Extend A Family Kingston, through her teaching assignments and via a Special Education course at Queen’s University.
Hope Slack has a Child and Youth Worker Diploma through St. Lawrence College. Through the program she has taken courses focusing on behavioral issues of children. She has also had 15 years of experience working with children through babysitting, and her Child and Youth Worker placements. In addition, she has had nearly 10 years of experience working with disabled adults through the Kingston District Association for Community Living.
Both Kim and Hope have two children of their own, and therefore add motherhood to their list of credentials.
Parents can be assured of a caring environment for their children based on the vast experience of these two women.
