About us/me:
In 1988, my mother left her job with the Toronto School Board and began a daycare focused on teaching children good values and educating them before school. As I grew, I became involved in the endeavour and we created our own method of teaching and nurturing small children. It was this method I later passed on to educators of children & adults with disabilities while working in the US post-university. Though this method works great for everyone as it is centered on each child (similar to a montessori system).
While I was in the US I participated in a volunteer first responder program for the city where I was living. Our job was to make people stable until the ambulance could arrive and transport them to hospital, as we were very far out in the country.
I have now taken over the daycare. In addition to the nurturing and teaching methods, I have incorporated some facets of the Buddhist lifestyle I enjoy.
Children who spend time at our daycare enjoy lessons that bolster their creativity and logic while teaching them to read and other valuable pre-school assets.
We also focus on meditation, exercise, etiquette, and tolerance.
An integral part of our education focuses on animal-interaction and is unique in the field. While classrooms have traditionally had class pets to help teach the children, we have taken it further. Research shows (as do our results) that children who interact with animals are more confident, focused, conscientious people. They perform better in school and in social situations. Therefore we will be taking frequent trips to petting zoos and may interact in the home environment from time to time with a therapy animal.
About the Daycare:
We take field trips
We are situated at the corner of Queen & Bramalea, in an apartment. While the building allows smoking, no-one in the daycare smokes.
The building has heat & A/C in the summers
We live next to Chinguacousy Park
The fee is $150/ week (this works out to $30/ day). This is non-negotiable, regardless of number of children, or need of receipt, which are available upon request.
